Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for completing the daily accounting operations (full-cycle), of multiple entities, ensuring compliance, and preparing consolidated financial reports & statements. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of IFRS, excellent analytical skills, strong attention to deadlines, and the ability to work collaboratively with different teams.

Duties, Responsibilities, Authority, and Accountabilities

  • Complete day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, and reporting in compliance with IFRS.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Analyze financial data and provide insights into financial performance to support decision-making processes.
  • Responsibility for project accounting across the business, including creating, maintaining and reviewing costs associated with operational and future projects.
  • Business partnering with internal and external project partners.
  • Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and consistency in financial reporting.
  • Support and mentor junior accounting staff and guide them on accounting issues and processes.
  • Advise on technical accounting approaches, for example, IFRS 16
  • Review and reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and other financial documents.
  • Support the implementation and conduct regular audits and reconciliations to identify and resolve any discrepancies in the ERP system.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve accounting issues and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax regulations and coordinate with external auditors during the annual audit process.
  • Prepare monthly reports as required, including GST, WCB, and government remittances.
  • Prepare and file tax returns and other statutory reporting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience of full cycle accounting.
  • Strong experience in project accounting.
  • Experience mentoring junior accounting staff.
  • Strong understanding of IFRS and Canadian accounting principles and regulations.
  • Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
  • Self-motivated and results-focused
  • Good organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Elevated levels of integrity and ability to manage confidential information.
  • Ability to work independently within established guidelines and procedures and as a member of a team.
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Office software (Excel, Word, and Outlook) and accounting software (e.g. Quickbooks, NetSuite)
  • Experience working with First Nations is an asset.
