Job Description:The Georgia Department of Defense is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to manage complex reconciliations, financial reporting, and year-end closing. In this role, you will oversee essential fiscal operations and ensure compliance with both state and federal fund regulations.

Key Responsibilities:- Core Accounting Functions: Oversee federal/state AR, capital asset accounting, maintain all bank recons, and complete other comprehensive ledger reconciliations.
- Year-End Close & Reporting: Serve as a key contributor to State and Federal year-end close and develop internal and external financial reports.
- Financial Analysis & Integrity: Review and analyze various general ledger account balances to ensure accuracy. Use reports, queries, and analytical tools to find, reconcile, and resolve complex discrepancies.
- GAAP & Compliance: Correctly apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) within the accounting system. Prepare standard statutory, regulatory, and financial reports while ensuring all internal and external policies are met.
- Policy Development & Support: Assist with developing new financial policies to achieve agency goals and provide general accounting expertise across departments.
Preferred Qualifications:- Five (5) or more years of current or recent State of Georgia accounting experience.
- Recent functional and working knowledge of GL and AR in Workday (GA@WORK).
- Current or recent professional experience working with federal funding.
- Advanced reconciliation, problem-solving, and general ledger skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, formulas, V-Lookups, etc.).
- Completion of the State's Primary Governmental Accounting Series.
Physical Requirements:- Sitting for extended periods while utilizing a computer.
- Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, or lift boxes to archive and pack physical files.

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in accounting and three (3) years of professional accounting job-related experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Accountant 3 (FIP022) or position equivalent.
