Security Systems Operations Manager

Johnson Controls helps customers create safer, smarter, and more secure buildings and facilities. In this role, you will lead the installation team, support customer success, and help drive strong safety, quality, and financial performance across the area.

Role Overview

Under general direction, the Install Team Manager Security manages installation capacity and staffing, leads professional development, and ensures adherence to contract performance through effective operations management and mentoring. This role partners closely with sales, service, operations, and leadership teams to deliver secure, high-quality projects while driving a strong safety culture and consistent execution.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the capacity, staffing, and overall performance of the Install Team across the area.
  • Establish team objectives and direct efforts to achieve productivity, quality, and contract performance targets.
  • Hire, retain, coach, and performance manage direct reports, including career development planning and documented performance reviews.
  • Drive compliance with the JCI Safety Program for employees and subcontractors, including on-site observations and coaching.
  • Support project and construction management activities as needed, depending on span of control.
  • Monitor forecast and actual project revenue and executed margin, and take action to support results.
  • Conduct quality inspections of work performed by technicians and subcontractors and address gaps through coaching and training.
  • Coordinate with Sales, Service, regional teams, and the Market General Manager to ensure seamless delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in customer meetings, support escalations, and contribute to large or high-priority opportunity pursuits.
  • Provide leadership feedback on market trends, operational needs, and areas for improvement.

  • Stay close to the work and remove obstacles by visiting sites, understanding customer needs, and quickly resolving issues that affect delivery.
  • Improve every day through clear feedback, regular quality checks, practical coaching, and action plans that strengthen team performance.
  • Win as one team by partnering with Sales, Service, regional leadership, subject matter experts, and subcontractors to deliver a seamless customer experience.
  • Use data, forecasting, and workforce planning to make timely staffing adjustments and keep installation operations running effectively.
  • Communicate expectations clearly, coach to the individual, and develop leaders who can perform in a fast-moving, customer-focused environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business, or equivalent work experience.
  • Five or more years of progressively more responsible operations management experience in the Installation Industry, including five or more years of direct management experience.
  • Broad knowledge of the security and life safety industry; experience in one business is required, and multiple businesses is an advantage.
  • High-level competence in written and verbal communication.
  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to speak effectively to large audiences.
  • Ability to lead and direct cross-functional and cross-business unit project teams to achieve business results.
  • Ability to lead, manage, mentor, and inspire others.
  • Knowledge of multiple levels within the supply chain organization.
  • Strong ability to negotiate, persuade, and influence.
  • Proficiency in software scheduling tools and applications, with strong project management process competencies.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Adobe Writer, Visio, MS Project, basic Windows environments, and internet business applications.
  • Ability to travel as required to support the area.
  • Willingness to use the office location as your base of operations.
Nice to Have
  • Ten or more years of progressively more responsible operations management experience in the Installation Industry, including five or more years of direct management experience.
  • Experience leading large P&Ls and driving growth in a customer-oriented environment.
  • Strong strategic agility and the ability to adapt leadership style to the needs of different team members and situations.
  • Experience collaborating across security, life safety, sales, service, and regional operations teams.
