Security Engineer
Los Angeles, CA | Hybrid
$100,000-$110,000/year | Exempt

A growing and security-conscious organization is seeking a Security Engineer to join its Technology team in Los Angeles. This is a hands-on opportunity for an IT or cybersecurity professional looking to expand their engineering capabilities while working across security operations, infrastructure, networking, identity, vulnerability management, cloud security, and incident response.

The Security Engineer will work closely with senior security and engineering professionals as well as Network, Infrastructure, Cloud, Service Desk, Application, and vendor teams to maintain secure, reliable, and resilient technology environments.

What You'll Do
  • Deploy, configure, monitor, and maintain enterprise security technologies including SIEM, EDR/XDR, endpoint protection, firewalls, and network security platforms
  • Monitor and triage security alerts, escalating confirmed incidents appropriately
  • Assist with security alert, detection rule, dashboard, and monitoring improvements
  • Support security infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments
  • Work with Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Defender, and Microsoft Sentinel
  • Assist with security automation and scripting using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar tools
  • Support Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD), Group Policy, and identity/access management
  • Contribute to Zero Trust, least-privilege, Conditional Access, PAM/PIM, and privileged access initiatives
  • Conduct and support vulnerability scanning and remediation efforts
  • Participate in incident response, evidence collection, containment, service restoration, and post-incident documentation
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and network teams on servers, virtualization, storage, backup, patching, upgrades, migrations, and configuration changes
  • Support disaster recovery, business continuity, and infrastructure resilience initiatives
  • Maintain technical documentation, diagrams, inventories, procedures, and operational runbooks
  • Assist with penetration testing coordination and security audit preparation
  • Partner with IT and application teams to incorporate security requirements into technology projects
  • Leverage AI tools to improve analytical, repetitive, and automation-related tasks
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Network Engineering, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure, or network operations, including at least one year in a security-focused role
  • Strong foundational knowledge of enterprise networking, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, VPNs, wireless networking, and network segmentation
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server, Windows, Linux, Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft Entra ID, and IAM
  • Understanding of hybrid infrastructure, virtualization, storage, backup/recovery, cloud services, monitoring, patching, and configuration management
  • Hands-on exposure to security technologies such as SIEM, EDR/XDR, vulnerability management, SWG, CASB, DLP, ZTNA, firewalls, or microsegmentation
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure and the Microsoft security ecosystem
  • Basic scripting or automation skills using PowerShell, Python, Bash, or a comparable language
  • Understanding of incident response, vulnerability remediation, change management, documentation, and operational support
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills
Nice to Have
  • CompTIA Security+, CySA+, Microsoft SC-200, AZ-500, CCNA, GSEC, SSCP, Fortinet, or similar certification
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft 365 security, or comparable SIEM/EDR platforms
  • Experience with Tenable, Netskope, Fortinet, Akamai Guardicore, or comparable security technologies
  • Experience supporting Azure, Microsoft 365, virtualization, backup, monitoring, or hybrid infrastructure
  • Familiarity with NIST CSF, ISO 27001, CIS Controls, or MITRE ATT&CK
  • Experience in an ITIL-aligned environment
  • Background in a law firm, professional services, financial services, or other security-conscious enterprise environment
