Full Job Description
The Identity and Access Management (IAM) Security team is seeking a Security Engineer to help protect and improve authentication and authorization across Amazon's Stores, Digital, and Other (SDO) organizations.

In this role, you will:

- Participate in architectural reviews and threat models for identity systems

- Develop and support requirements for Amazon's IAM security initiatives

- Improve access management infrastructure across a complex global environment

- Provide authN/authZ design review and threat modeling services across the enterprise

- Implement and maintain automated security audits for identity workflows

- Collaborate with business teams on technologies such as FIDO2, Kerberos, Single Sign-On, and Passwordless Authentication

We invest in deeply understanding the different ways Amazon does business to devise strategies that meaningfully improve security posture while enabling business productivity. You'll work on difficult problems independently, influence service teams, and drive security outcomes across teams.

Data-driven decisions are important to us. You will draw heavily on your experience collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data to create compelling communications to peer teams and leadership.

If you're excited about securing identity at scale and have experience with modern authentication protocols, we'd love to hear from you.

Key job responsibilities

- Protect and secure Amazon authentication and authorization workflows across Stores, Digital, and Other (SDO) business units

- Participate in architectural reviews, threat models, and secure design consultations for identity systems

- Implement and maintain automated security audits (SAST/DAST) to ensure identity workflows adhere to security standards

- Develop policies, procedures, and guidance for the identity lifecycle (provisioning, authentication, authorization, deprovisioning)

- Collaborate with Business Security Teams (BSTs) to deploy and validate authentication configurations for Amazon-owned endpoints

- Create and maintain scripts to automate reporting and security operations across various IAM technologies

- Work with technologies such as FIDO2/WebAuthn, Kerberos, Single Sign-On, Passwordless Authentication, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and SAML

- Analyze, troubleshoot, investigate, and remediate identity security events

- Collect and analyze data to drive security decisions and communicate findings to peer teams and leadership

A day in the life

As a Security Engineer on the IAM team, you will work across multiple security disciplines to protect Amazon's identity infrastructure. A typical day may include:

- Reviewing threat models for new authentication flows and recommending mitigations to service teams

- Conducting security code reviews on identity protocol implementations (OAuth, SAML, OIDC)

- Writing and maintaining Python scripts to automate security audits and generate compliance reports

- Consulting with business teams on passwordless authentication, FIDO2, and SSO deployments

- Analyzing alerts from detection tools and investigating identity security events

- Communicating findings and security recommendations to stakeholders and leadership

About the team

The Identity and Access Management (IAM) Security team drives improvements to authentication and authorization for Amazon's Stores, Digital, and Other (SDO) organizations. We invest in deeply understanding the different ways Amazon does business to devise strategies that meaningfully improve security posture while enabling business productivity.

As a core component of modern technology, IAM provides security teams with a mechanism to holistically enforce central security policy and reduce the risk of fraud and lateral movement. Our team advises the business on IAM security risks and best practices through consultation and project engagements, and implements security guidance for human, device, and service identity workloads.

We are a collaborative team that values ownership, curiosity, and a bias for action. You'll work alongside experienced security engineers who are passionate about solving complex identity challenges at Amazon's scale.
