The Section Manager, Commercial Energy Efficiency & Heating Electrification is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategy, performance, and execution of a high-impact portfolio serving commercial customers. This leader oversees program managers and cross-functional initiatives to deliver measurable energy savings, advance electrification, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This role is critical to shaping the built environment of the future: Leading innovative programs, influencing key stakeholders, and fostering a high-performing, forward-thinking team that helps customers make cleaner energy choices.

This position does not provide employment pursuant to the terms of a STEM OPT Training Plan.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end strategy, design, and execution of commercial energy efficiency and heating electrification programs to achieve savings goals and business objectives.
  • Direct and develop a team of program managers; foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee program operations including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, performance management, and process optimization.
  • Drive contractor procurement strategy, including RFP development, negotiations, and vendor performance management.
  • Partner cross-functionally (Regulatory, Finance, Engineering, IT, Legal, Customer Operations, Supply Chain, and Corporate Affairs) to optimize portfolio performance and ensure alignment.
  • Strengthen customer and market engagement strategies, including collaboration with sales teams on incentive negotiations and customer solutions.
  • Identify and implement innovative solutions to remove barriers, scale programs, and enhance customer adoption.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies to continuously evolve program strategy.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to advance business priorities.
  • Champion a customer-centric, safety-first culture while ensuring compliance with all EH&S, EEO, and Company policies and standards.


Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Economics, Business, climate or related fields and eight (8) years of relevant work experience, or
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) and six (6) years of relevant work experience.

Relevant Work Experience
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to drive results by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to build consensus, required.
  • Proven range of presentation skills to various audiences, including customers, teams, executives and industry stakeholders, required.
  • Demonstrated writing and oral communications skills, required.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to see the big picture and attention to detail, required.
  • Experience in planning and managing budgets, required.
  • Ability to make decisions in real-time, under pressure, required.
  • Flexibility to deal with ambiguity and comfortable working in a dynamic environment, required.
  • Experience with project management tools, required.
  • Experience in customer engagement to drive desired participation, required.
  • Experience in vendor oversight, including contract development, monitoring and assessing performance, preferred.
  • Familiar with New York States Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, preferred.
  • Knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, preferred.
  • Experience in energy efficiency, demand management, demand response or other competitive, market driven utility programs, including project and process management experience, preferred.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver's License Required
  • Other: Certified Energy Manager (CEM) Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
