Full Job Description
We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead the Builder Acceleration team, owning the people, technical direction, and delivery for build infrastructure, CI/CD health, app signing, and third-party SDK governance. You will manage a two-pizza team of SDEs and partner closely with TPMs, PM-Ts, and peer SDMs across Mobile Shopping Foundations and beyond.

As AI-generated code reshapes how software is written, you will define how our build infrastructure absorbs that change ensuring along the way that higher contribution velocity never compromises stability or developer experience.

Your work will directly affect the build experience of hundreds of builders and teams across Amazon and the release cadence of one of the most downloaded shopping apps globally while we transform how we develop software and integrate it. You will solve problems at the intersection of build systems, development experience, builder productivity, and mobile platform evolution.

This role offers direct and regular visibility to senior leadership across Mobile Shopping Foundations. You will own a critical-path system, drive cross-org alignment, and demonstrate impact at scale with clear, measurable outcomes like build time, CI/CD break rate, and developer satisfaction.

You will join a team of tenured engineers that values engineering rigor, operational excellence, and builder obsession.

You are a technical leader equally comfortable diving deep in technical challenges, managing a team, and growing engineers to the next level. You get energy from driving a team to innovate to accelerate velocity of hundreds of engineers rather than building features yourself. You see AI-accelerated development as an exciting scaling challenge and you want to be the one who solves it.

Key job responsibilities

* Lead and grow a team of SDEs delivering build infrastructure serving hundreds of mobile developers

* Own CI/CD build stability, build time optimization, and binary signing for the Amazon Shopping app

* Evolve build infrastructure to support AI-generated code patterns at scale

* Drive technical direction for the team's systems and guide SDEs through ambiguous problems

* Own third-party SDK governance, ensuring compliance and reducing security risk across hundreds of dependencies

* Partner with the Quality and Release teams to ensure always-ready production binaries

* Hire, develop, and retain engineers; provide hands-on mentorship and establish clear growth paths for SDEs

* Drive operational excellence by improving metrics and maintaining SLA compliance

* Communicate team status, risks, and technical decisions effectively to senior leadership

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 7+ years of engineering experience

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience leading highly technical, analytical, and service delivery professionals

- Experience driving direction and alignment with cross-functional teams

- Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship

- Experience with build systems, CI/CD pipelines, or developer tooling

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

- Experience with mobile development ecosystems (Android/iOS build systems, Gradle, SPM, Bazel)

- Experience with monorepo or large-scale multi-team codebases

- Track record of improving developer productivity metrics (build time, mainline stability, onboarding time)
