Role description
Scrum Master
Scrum Master I
UST is searching for a dynamic Scrum Master to drive the delivery of enterprise-level artificial intelligence and machine learning initiatives across our Technology & Innovation division.
The opportunity:
• Facilitate all Scrum ceremonies sprint planning, daily standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives for one or more AI/ML product squads, ensuring velocity, predictability, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with AI Product Owners and data science leads to maintain well-groomed, prioritized backlogs that balance model development, MLOps work, data engineering tasks, and UX/UI stories.
• Identify, track, and remove impediments specific to AI delivery: data access delays, model drift issues, compute resource constraints, regulatory review cycles, and cross-team dependencies.
• Coach team members on Agile best practices tailored to AI/ML workflows, including iterative experimentation, hypothesis-driven development, and responsible AI governance checkpoints.
• Manage risks and dependencies across multiple squads and stakeholder groups, including data governance, compliance, legal, and member-experience teams.
• Track and communicate sprint metrics (velocity, burn-down/burn-up, cycle time) as well as AI-specific KPIs such as model accuracy benchmarks, inference latency, and bias/fairness indicators.
This position description identifies the responsibilities and tasks typically associated with the performance of the position. Other relevant essential functions may be required.
What you need:
• 5+ years of Scrum Master experience, with at least 2 years supporting data science, machine learning, or AI product teams preferred.

• Demonstrated ability to adapt Agile frameworks to accommodate the iterative, experiment-driven nature of AI/ML development cycles.
• Strong stakeholder communication skills; able to translate technical AI concepts (model pipelines, training runs, evaluation metrics) for business audiences.
• Experience working in regulated industries such as health insurance, financial services, or healthcare IT, with familiarity around data privacy (HIPAA) and responsible AI frameworks.
• Proficiency with Agile tooling: Jira, Confluence, DevOps, or equivalent.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Business, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Preferred qualifications:
• Hands-on familiarity with MLOps tooling (MLflow, Kubeflow, SageMaker) and cloud platforms (AWS specifically).
• Experience with large language model (LLM) deployment workflows, prompt engineering iteration cycles, or AI-assisted member/claims products.
• Knowledge of health plan operations, claims adjudication, utilization management, or member engagement is a strong plus.
• Experience coaching teams on Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) or Test-Driven Development (TDD) in AI contexts.
• Familiarity with AI ethics, bias auditing, and model explainability practices as they relate to healthcare decision-making.
