Job Summary:The Immunosafety & Immunogenicity group in Local Delivery Translational Sciences is seeking a
Scientist I, based in Irvine, CA to support the local and global portfolio. This position requires strong technical expertise in immunology and cell-based assay development, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work and communicate effectively within a collaborative, matrixed team. The candidate must conduct all work activities in compliance with AbbVie internal standards and applicable regulatory requirements, including ethics, environmental health and safety, financial, human resources, and general business policies and objectives.
Responsibilities- Develop and execute robust cell-based immunology assays.
- Perform immunoassays and multiplex analyses using platforms such as Luminex and MSD.
- Design experiments, optimize assay performance, analyze data, interpret results, and draw scientifically sound conclusions.
- Perform flow cytometry experiments and analyze flow cytometry datasets using FlowJo.
- Create and maintain standardized assay templates, data-analysis workflows, and organized documentation to improve consistency, traceability, and efficiency.
- Identify and implement opportunities for laboratory and data-analysis automation.
- Prepare clear, accurate data summaries, reports, and scientific presentations for project teams, leadership, and regulatory use.
- Author SOPs, protocols, reports, technical transfer documentation; support method transfer to external CROs as needed.
- Assist with training team members and apply relevant scientific literature and emerging technologies to project needs.
QualificationsQualifications- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education with typically 5 years of relevant experience, or master's degree or equivalent education with typically 2 years of relevant experience in Immunology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Bioanalytical Sciences, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and cell-based immunology assays.
- Knowledge of basic cell biology, immunology, experimental design, assay development, and data interpretation.
- Experience organizing assay templates, laboratory records, analytical outputs, and project documentation.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation and presentation of scientific data.
- Willingness to learn and adopt new techniques, technologies, and automated workflows, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Preferred Skills and Experience- One or more years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience is preferred.
- Experience working in GLP/GCP-compliant or similarly regulated environments.
- Experience with Flow cytometry, Luminex, MSD, ELISA, and related immunoassay or biomarker platforms.
- Hands-on experience with primary cell isolation, PBMC culture, cell counting, viability assessment, and other cell-based immunogenicity assays.
