Full Job Description
Position Overview

The Scientist II conducts research and development activities focusing on new product development, technical product support, and process improvements. Tasks include experimental design, data analysis, cell culture experiments, and maintaining good laboratory practices. The role involves preparing reports, participating in meetings, and using various laboratory assays and techniques. Supervision is minimal after training, with some indirect supervision of junior scientists.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
  • Works on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors
  • Exercises judgment within general defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
  • Performs experimental design and data analysis using Microsoft Suite, statistic and other experimental design and data plotting or analysis software
  • Prepares formal reports and presentations
  • Actively participate in group/project meetings
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications
  • Maintain Good Laboratory Practices, Procedures, and documentation.
  • Performs cell culture experiments for research and development of mammalian cell culture products, technical product support, and/or process improvements.
  • Performs common chemical/biological assays, which may include but not limited to buffer and solution preparation, maintaining mammalian cell culture, transfection, immunoassay, and quantification of biomolecules such as antibodies, adeno-associated viral vectors, and lentiviral vectors

Required Skills/Education:
  • Minimum B.S. in a science, bioscience, engineering or bioengineering field.
  • B.S. candidates, a minimum of 5 years of relevant bioscience, engineering or bioengineering work experience
  • M.S. qualified candidates, a minimum of 2 years of relevant lab-related work experience
  • Ability to perform a wide range of assigned work and solve complex problems
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory equipment (scales, pH meters, dPCR etc.)
  • Knowledge of commonly used experimental/research concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Suite
  • Knowledge of GMP and GLP procedures
  • Attention to details with critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to follow instructions and SOP's, motivation in learning new knowledge and hands-on techniques, and awareness of basic lab etiquettes and hygiene is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of Mammalian Cell Culture, Chemistry, Biochemistry
  • Experience designing, running, and analyzing data from mammalian culture bioreactors. Experience with process development to optimize parameters for bioreactors.
  • Knowledge and experience of Mammalian Cell Culture in Biosafety cabinets, PCR (qPCR or dPCR) and immunoassay is highly desirable
  • Ability to speak, write and read English proficiently

Salary and Benefits:
  • For California, the base salary range for this position is $84,822- $110,584. Compensation for the successful candidate will depend on various factors (e.g., qualifications, education, prior experience, location, etc.).
