Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Scientist to join Discovery Immunology's Nonhuman Primate (NHP) In Vivo Pharmacology team. As part of that team, this position will drive the development and deployment of NHP in vitro and in vivo models to support AbbVie's Immunology drug discovery efforts. This is a hands-on and lab-based role requiring significant cell biology and ex vivo expertise. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with primary cell cultures and in vitro cell-based assays in the context of autoimmune disease.
Key Responsibilities:
37Routine culture and maintenance of immortalized and primary cell cultures, especially of NHP and human origin.3737Isolation of primary human cells from various sources including tissue and whole blood.3737Work with a Principal Scientist to develop flow cytometry panels for immunophenotyping3737Design, perform, and interpret in vitro experiments to support drug discovery and development activities with both human and NHP primary immune cells.3737Conduct experiments with a high level of independence and initiative and performing tasks with minimal direct supervision for routine methods.3737Independently schedule and prioritize workload to manage several tasks simultaneously3737Maintain detailed and timely electronic documentation to ensure adherence to departmental procedures and contribute to final reports as needed.3737Interact with other scientists within a matrixed environment including to identify / utilize resources outside of own group and presenting findings to audiences with diverse backgrounds (e.g., immunologists, cell biologists, pathologists, bioengineers).37

Qualifications
37Bachelor's Degree at least 7 years of experience, or Master's Degree with at least five years of experience.3737Experience working with human tissue samples and with isolating and characterizing cells such as epithelial, fibroblast, endothelial, and/or immunological (B cells, T cells, monocytes) by methods such as tissue digestion and dissociation. Extensive experience with primary cell cultures and in vitro cell based assays.3737Demonstrated proficiency in cell and molecular biological assays such as qPCR analysis, multicolor flow cytometry, FACS, ELISA/Luminex/MSD, cell proliferation/viability assays, cytotoxicity, and in vitro cell stimulation assays3737Strong written/oral communication and presentation skills are important. Experience with electronic lab notebooks is preferred.3737Experience with statistical analysis and graphing software (Excel, FlowJo, GraphPad Prism)3737Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in a highly matrixed organization.37
