General Description:At BeOne Institute, we extend BeOne's execution strength with a dedicated innovation engine, bringing agility and scientific depth to transform uncertainty into actionable and high-impact therapeutic opportunities. We operate according to three core principles:
- Bold Exploration: we pursue novel and high-potential ideas through rapid, iterative innovation cycles.
- Strategic Alignment: we prioritize disease areas that align closely with BeOne's R&D priorities and long-term vision.
- Pipeline Impact: we translate insights into tangible assets and advance emerging platforms into impactful programs.
As a Scientist at BeOne Institute, you will play a key role in conceptualizing, enabling, and advancing cutting-edge research at our San Carlos, CA site. As part of our team, you will design and execute experiments to identify novel targets, elucidate mechanisms, and explore new modalities and chemical matter to address unmet needs in oncology and immunology. The ideal candidate will be an innovative and curious scientist who brings creative solutions to current and emerging challenges and actively contributes to brainstorming and collaborative problem-solving. This is a rare opportunity to pursue bold ideas and help translate them into transformative medicines.
Essential Functions of the Job: - Lead or co-lead exploratory efforts on novel targets and new approaches to high impact targets within oncology, immunology, or other disease areas.
- Design, enable, execute, and interpret cellular experiments to probe mechanisms and test target hypotheses.
- Generate and characterize engineered cell models, including cell lines incorporating genetic perturbations such as knockouts, knockdowns, or other targeted modifications.
- Develop and apply appropriate experimental approaches, including emerging technologies and profiling methods, to address complex and evolving biological questions.
- Stay up-to-date on project-relevant literature and state-of-the-art techniques; be adaptable and independently follow the science.
- Communicate progress through regular updates while proactively identifying challenges and proposing solutions.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary or cross-functional teams and drive innovation within and beyond the Institute.
- Contribute to management and operational activities to support strategic objectives of the BeOne Institute at the San Carlos site.
- Maintain impeccable ELN records.

- May provide matrix or line-function leadership for project teams when needed
Computer Skills: - Proficiency with electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) and commitment to maintaining high-quality, accurate, and reproducible experimental records
Required Qualifications: - Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioengineering, or a related scientific field, with relevant research experience
- Strong hands-on expertise in mammalian cell biology, including experience with genetic perturbation approaches such as CRISPR-based knockout/knock-in, RNAi-mediated knockdown, or related methods
- Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, troubleshoot, and interpret experiments to investigate biological mechanisms and test scientific hypotheses
- Experience generating and characterizing engineered cell lines for mechanistic studies
- Experience with one or more of the following: transcriptomics (e.g., RNA-seq), chromatin profiling (e.g., ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN/CUT&Tag), high-content imaging, or other genomic and/or phenotypic profiling approaches
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental data and draw biologically meaningful conclusions
- Ability to learn and apply new experimental approaches and technologies as research priorities evolve; demonstrated versatility across biological questions and experimental systems
- Strong scientific judgment and problem-solving skills, with a track record of identifying experimental strategies to address challenging or ambiguous biological questions
- Ability to operate effectively in a highly collaborative, fast-paced, and interdisciplinary research environment, and to integrate multi-disciplinary approaches to solve complex biological problems
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex scientific concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Be able to work on-site in San Carlos, CA
Preferred Qualifications:- Knowledge of cancer biology, signaling pathways, and mechanisms of disease
- Experience studying transcription factors and/or transcriptional regulation
- Experience with chromatin biology and/or functional genomics
- Experience in a drug discovery or biotechnology research environment
