Job Title: Scientific Applications Engineer/DataOps Manager                                                  

Location: Seattle, WA OR Redmond, WA

Reports to: Scientific Director

The Role:

As a software engineer, this role involves the development and application of software systems and methods for large scale data capture, management, and analysis across the entire biotherapeutic development process. It requires strong knowledge of software development practices, including the development of web-based interfaces to scientific applications. It also requires working closely with other scientific developers, lab, and data scientists to develop data management and analysis systems to improve biotherapeutic development.  

As a DataOps Manager, this role involves the monitoring and troubleshooting of data pipelines and platforms to ensure uptime, performance, and correctness. It includes the management and triage of user feedback and bug reports, forwarding them to the appropriate functional teams. Additionally, this role oversees user adoption, training development, and coordinates internal client communication. 

Strong communication and collaboration skills, a desire to learn new scientific concepts and domains, and an ability to work directly with scientific staff across multiple disciplines are also required. 

What You'll Do:

  • Work independently or as a team member to develop and/or implement data handling and analysis systems 

  • Develop code and data structure definitions for integrating and visualizing data from various scientific and laboratory sources into databases and related data management systems 

  • Support and extend existing data management and visualization pipelines, code, and databases 

  • Work with scientific staff to collect requirements, understand workflows, and review prototype systems 

  • Communicate results to senior management 

  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and platforms to ensure uptime and performance 

  • Manage user feedback and bug reports, forwarding them to appropriate functional teams 

  • Support user adoption, develop training programs, and communicate changes in data practices 

Who You Are:

  • B.S., M.S., or equivalent experience with strong experience in scientific software development 

  • Strong experience in Java development, with proficiency with other programming languages such as Python or R 

  • Experience with relational databases and typical raw data exchange formats 

  • Experience with web UI frameworks such as PrimeFaces, ExtJs, or AngularJS 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 

  • Strong focus on quality and attention to detail 

  • Possess effective task/time management organizational skills 

  • Ability to work in small groups as well as independently 

  • Ability to organize, analyze/interpret, and effectively communicate results 

  • Experience with AWS or other cloud solutions 

  • Familiarity with code versioning tools 

  • Familiarity with the LabKey system 

  • Scientific data visualization experience 

  • Scientific algorithm development experience 

  • Familiarity with handling of NGS and genomic data 

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be $102,000 to $120,000; Base salary offered may vary depending on individual’s skills, experience and competitive market value.
