Position description

The Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics is seeking a Scientist for a full-time faculty position. The selected candidate will be appointed to the rank of Associate or Full Professor in the Adjunct series depending on qualifications and interests.

Faculty in the Adjunct series are individuals who are predominately engaged in research or other creative work and who participate in teaching, or individuals who contribute primarily to teaching have a limited responsibility for research or other creative work; these individuals may be professional practitioners of appropriate distinction. The individual will be responsible for mentorship and guidance of early career faculty and/or Fellows, as well strategic guidance of internal grant making programs. Appointees within this series also engage in University and public service consistent with their assignments.

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or PhD/MD, with at least 20 years of post-graduate academic, nonprofit, and/or industrial experience in biomedical sciences, with a strong record of academic mentorship, interdisciplinary research team building, grant program design, implementation, and scientific review.
  • Must have held one or more positions with at least two or more direct reports.
  • Must have managed research budget and/or research award budgets, and must have organized and executed scientific award competitions, symposia, and other scientific faculty community building events.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with funding initiatives for early career scientists and physician scientists, including grant and publication tracking, support, and guidance, as well as IP disclosure guidance, and scientific career advancement.
  • Experience engaging with university leadership, university development personnel, and philanthropic donors.

The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 . The minimum base salary range for this position is $150,200-$319,800. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
