Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements
  • Build site resource capabilities for EHS program implementation

  • Maintain records of hazard analysis and risk assessments

  • Manage contractor safety program compliance
  • Ensure PSM program compliance and updates
  • Research and communicate safety regulations to management

Full Job Description
Position Description:

The Safety Manager performs functions to execute all aspects of the safety programs, including but not limited to development, implementation, compliance, training, and reporting for South Chicago Packing LLC.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Ensures that operations are executed in compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements
  • Builds capability of site resources to support implementation of EHS programs
  • Administers all aspects of the safety programs that empower employee participation in all areas of the organization
  • Develops safety and environmental risk assessments and develops/implements appropriate controls
  • Conducts hazard analysis for any new product or process
  • Maintains hazard analysis and risk assessment records in accordance with all regulatory and customer requirements
  • Coordinates safety audit processes with direction from corporate and plant safety management
  • Prepares, maintains, and submits all required safety reports
  • Supports management coordination with outside local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and company vendors associated with safety and environmental programs
  • Participates in the incident investigation process, including root cause analysis and identification of corrective action plans and track completion of corrective actions
  • Supports contractor safety program by being involved with the record management and interfacing with contractors to ensure compliance
  • Participates as team member to ensure all aspects of the PSM program are up to date and in compliance
  • Researches and communicates worker safety rules and regulations to appropriate management personnel
  • Creates and/or updates internal safety and environmental policies as needed
  • Facilitates/supports safety committees and regular safety meetings company wide
  • Responsible for safety communication throughout the facility through various methods of transmittance
  • Trains, coaches, and counsels staff members, as necessary, on regulatory compliance and safety awareness
  • Oversees facility security and needs
  • Performs other functions as assigned

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Safety related field
  • Knowledgeable of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements for OSHA and PSM programs
  • Excellent problem solving, analytical, communication, interpersonal, and relationship building skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Effective procedural writing
  • Able to develop policies and demonstrate hazard recognition
  • Strong training and coaching skills
  • Proficient with various computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office

Preferred Requirements:
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
