Full Job Description
AVMAC's Safety / EHS Manager implements, trains on, and maintains AVMAC's Safety/EHS programs, and ensures compliance with governmental regulations (Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) and industry standards. The Safety / EHS Manager must demonstrate experience in performing safety, environmental, and health related inspections on ships and in AVMAC's facility for OSHA compliance; demonstrate practical knowledge of safety programs; and possess detailed knowledge of shop procedures, processes, methods and techniques including NAVSEA Standard Items and Shipyard Competent Person, HAZWOPER and HAZWASTE removal.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

AVMAC's Safety / EHS Manager shall possess the requisite skills to perform all functions cited above. Additionally, our Safety / EHS Manager shall perform the following as required:
  • Monitor compliance with procedures and policies by observing employees and operations to promote a culture of health and safety.
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover root causes and recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures to prevent recurrence.
  • Conduct monthly training (at a minimum) and presentations covering relevant health and safety topics and accident prevention.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics as requested.
  • Brief subcontractors on AVMAC's Marine Safety Plan and audit and certify as necessary to ensure all consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers are in compliance with AVMAC's safety requirements.
  • Conduct frequent audits to identify safety hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Create and review Work Procedures related to safety, organize and oversee safety training for equipment, and conduct monthly safety meetings for supervisors and managers.
  • Maintain OSHA documents as required.
  • Perform or ensure compliance with industrial hygiene testing and other requirements.
  • Oversee and support storage and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Perform air sampling/monitoring as needed.
  • Manage the respirator protection program.
  • Assign, track and enter training in ADP for Maritime Division personnel

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Conduct or schedule Safety related training for employees and supervisors.
  • Enforce all company programs and directives as required to ensure safe and efficient maintenance operations.
  • Coordinate with and work in support of respective ship's force personnel.
  • Receive and route communications to AVMAC personnel as required.
  • Travel and support all AVMAC maintenance operations as directed.
  • Comply with policies and procedures set forth in the company's Employee Handbook, policy and written procedures, and AVMAC's Quality Management System.
  • Work, cooperate and communicate, as directed by the Quality / EHS Director and with other Directors, Managers, supervisors, team leaders, subcontractors and coworkers satisfactorily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Quality / EHS Director.
