What You'll Do- Interface with all levels of workers and management and customers within Y-12 organizations.
- Function as the primary S&IH point of contact in S&IH Director's absence.
- Provide strategic leadership for development, implementation, and administration of worker safety and health programs.
- Assist with decisions on funding, budget, and staffing planning.
- Provide authoritative consultation and review projects and designs to ensure compliance with all relevant safety and health regulations.
- Make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have and important impact on complex technical and regulatory compliance and risk management activities.
- Establish schedules to meet completion dates and technical specifications, make regulatory policy interpretations, reviews and coordinates staff output, investigates and resolves complex technical issues and manage staff assignments to meet the goals and objectives of the S&IH organization.
- Support organizations with professional consultation regarding their effort and impact on compliance with S&IH issues, may provide advice and recommendations concerning the impact, feasibility, and cost of proposed activities, initiatives and programs.
- Mentor and assist in development of personnel as they evolve and mature by providing leadership and oversight along with growth opportunities by attending professional development courses, conference, and maintaining qualifications and/or certifications within job scopes.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
This position may require entry into the Material Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (10 C.F.R. Part 712), which requires successful competition of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation and may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
This position may be categorized as a "designated position" identified by 10 C.F.R. Part 709, requiring successful completion of a DOE counterintelligence evaluation that may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination.
Additional Qualifications/ResponsibilitiesMinimum Job Requirements- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 12 years of relevant experience.
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 10 years of experience.
- OR PhD: Minimum 6 years of experience.
- Deep technical knowledge of Industrial Safety and Hygiene practices, policies, and processes
- Expert knowledge in a wide range of complex regulations and standards
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
Preferred Job Requirements- CIH - Certified Industrial Hygienist or CSP - Certified Safety Professional strongly preferred
- DOE Experience preferred
- A proven track record in both deep subject matter expertise in leading multi-disciplined teams
- Experience in identifying challenges in existing systems and work processes, initiating and leading cross-functional teams to develop optimized practices and processes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively motivate and manage personnel, coordinate and resolve programmatic positions with peer managers, and engage other organizations as necessary
