Job Description

An ideal candidate for this position will be someone who can work effectively in a small team to implement and maintain robust manufacturing solutions involving collaborative or industrial robotics. Proficiency with industrial and collaborative robots, mechanical design, and HMI/PLC development are integral to this role. Projects will vary from updates to existing equipment, to basic collaborative robot handling solutions all the way to fully integrated production equipment performing operations such as screw-driving, sealant dispense, and product assembly. We utilize the latest Allen-Bradley safety PLCs and industrial and collaborative robots, working closely with our component suppliers to ensure we can stay ahead of the innovation curve. There are no shortage of new ideas and interesting challenges, so you'll have no trouble finding opportunities to make a difference fast!

The expected annual salary range for this role is $74,290 - $101,300 a year depending on experience. This position is also eligible for a variable incentive program.

Core Responsibilities

DESIGN/DEVELOPMENT/IMPLEMENTATION
• Use process requirements and design guidelines
• Review equipment/production concepts; includes:
o Safety risk assessment
o Mechanical (end-of-arm tool, fixtures, frame, 3d printing, etc.)
o Electrical/motor controls (actuators, sensors, communication, HMI, PLC)
- Able to read and write schematics
o Familiar with Software concepts and interfaces (PLC and HMI)
• Debug equipment (robot interface to process equipment)
• Work with engineers and managers for coordination of line moves and installation.
• Setup/teach robotics during implementation phase
- Support integration of robotic systems with PLCs, sensors, vision systems and safety devices.
- Machine building (conveyors - powered, gravity, vision systems, etc)

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT
• Escalation point for production support topics - production process priority
• Identify, support, and implement improvement efforts to meet line production OEE, Scrap goals, and equipment MTBF goals
- Support AGV systems
-analyzing data to determine best support for production process improvement

INNOVATION:
• Evaluate new technologies to enhance capabilities, some examples:
o Robotics with integrated AI-enhanced vision
o Advances to safeguarding

ROBOTIC SYSTEM SUPPORT & MAINTENANCE
• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Staubli, UR, and Epson robotic systems and knowledge of end of arm tooling
• Perform routine preventative maintenance including calibration, lubrication, testing, and safety checks.
• Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, electrical, and programming-related issues to minimize downtime.
- On call rotation supporting robotics and automation functions

PLC & AUTOMATION CONTROLS

Troubleshoot and optimize Beckhoff PLC platforms (TwinCAT preferred).
Troubleshoot and maintain Allen-Bradley PLCs (Studio 5000).
Support integration of robotic systems with PLCs, sensors, vision systems and safety devices.
Understand network topology

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ROLE
  • Associates degree in a technical discipline or 10+ years relevant experience / equivalent military background in lieu of the degree
  • 5+ years' experience installing, teaching, and maintaining collaborative robots
  • PLC troubleshooting with Beckhoff or Allen Bradley
  • Strong electronics and pneumatic background - able to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and programming documentation
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Clear communication skills


Physical Requirements/Work Environment

*Ability to work on a manufacturing shopfloor environment
*Must wear company-provided ESD safety-toed shoes, smock, and other PPE in required areas
*Sitting or standing for 8+ hours, reaching, and using hands/fingers to operate a computer and other office equipment
*Must be able to push, pull, reach, twist, turn, stoop for duration of 8+ hour shifts
*Ability to lift or carry objects up to 40 lbs. unassisted
*Ability to climb ladders
*Ability to bend at waist and perform repetitive foot and hand action
*Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.
