Full Job Description
This Robotics System Engineer role involves contributing across multiple engineering disciplines and collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop new features for the latest generation of Pixmo, with a focus on innovativeness, performance and reliability. The position focuses on innovation, performance, reliability, and system integration across electrical, electronics, controls, firmware, and software domains. As part of a fast-paced robotics startup, you will contribute throughout the full product development lifecycle - from concept and prototyping to integration, validation, deployment, and troubleshooting of advanced robotic systems.

Description

What You'll Do:
  • Collaborate with the hardware and software teams to ideate, prototype and develop new robotic systems and concepts.
  • Design, develop, maintain and integrate electrical and electronics sub-systems, involving high-power electrical components, circuit protection devices, motors, motor drives, sensors and associated wiring architecture following technical requirements of the robot.
  • Design, assemble, test and debug custom PCBAs, inclusive of prototyping, validation and system integration in the robot.
  • Evaluate, select, integrate, and validate actuators, sensors and other electromechanical components.
  • Develop and maintain motor, actuator and sensor drivers in Python / C++.
  • Design and implement control architectures involving PLCs, embedded devices, sensors, and distributed control systems through hardware integration and firmware development.
  • Work on full cycles of plan/execute/test in complex projects.
  • Triage and debug cross-disciplinary issues across mechanical, electrical, electronics, firmware and controls sub-systems.
  • Contribute towards developing processes and documentation for robot assembly, bring-up and troubleshooting.
  • Support field testing, root-cause analysis, and reliability improvements for deployed robotic systems.
  • Sharing your knowledge and skills with your teammates, fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and growth.


What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in fields such as Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of professional experience working with complex robotic or electromechanical systems.
  • System level understanding of robotics hardware, firmware, controls and software architecture.
  • Experience with hardware integration, system debugging, and root-cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with standard assembly and diagnostic tools, including power tools, hand tools, power supplies, multimeter, oscilloscope and logic analyzers.
  • Mentality for fast prototyping and testing.
  • Understanding of digital and analog signals as well as common communication protocols such as UART, I2C, CAN, RS232, Ethernet, etc.
  • Highly motivated individual with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic start-up environment as part of a small team.
  • Work on a full-time schedule at our office in Fremont.
  • Open for regular short onsite visits and for extended onsite visits during feature delivery.


Nice To Have:
  • Experience of working with PLCs
  • Experience designing PCBAs in either Altium, KiCAD, Autodesk Eagle or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in Python or C++.
  • Experience developing low-level drivers for motors, actuators and sensors in Python / C++.
  • Familiarity with robotics software frameworks such as ROS/ROS 2.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is from $120,000-$160,000/year depending on experience and qualifications.

Additional compensation may include equity/benefits / other incentives, where applicable.
