Department Overview

Doernbecher (DCH) 9S Pediatric Acute Care Surgical (PACS) is a 24-bed unit providing evidence-based, acute care for pediatric patients and their families from birth to young adulthood. Services that admit to DCH 9S PACS include and are not limited to: General Surgery, Orthopedics, Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, ENT, Plastics, Urology, Nephrology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, and General Peds overflow.

Function/Duties of Position

PACM 9N Team faces all endeavors with a growth mindset and a people-centered approach in order to provide excellent care to our patients and support a healthy workplace.
• 9N Pediatric Acute Care Medical is a 24-bed unit providing evidence-based, acute care for pediatric patients and their families from birth to young adulthood. Services that admit to DCH PACM include and are not limited to: General Pediatrics, Kaiser Pediatrics, Adolescent Health, Psychiatry, Pulmonology, Endocrinology, and General Surgery overflow.
• The PACM nurses partner in care with clinicians, dieticians, OT/PT services, pain services, social work, case managers, child life, schoolteachers, and pharmacists to provide children with the best possible individualized care.

Department Specific Requirements:
• A minimum score of 11/18 on the OHSU Nurse Interview Evaluation Tool
• Successful completion of unit orientation

Required Qualifications

  • BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
  • ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
  • Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
  • BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation


Preferred Qualifications
• 2 years inpatient pediatric RN experience
• Pediatric psychiatric experience preferred
• CPN certification or other applicable pediatric specialty certification
• Self-reflective, self-directed learner who achieves progressive growth
• Identify gaps in knowledge and initiate seeking resources to identify and manage risks and practice safely with a wide variety of patient populations
• Able to advance plan of care
• Excellent time management
• Integrate into a high functioning and collaborative team

  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.


Length of Orientation - Experienced Nurse
  • External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
  • Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
