Department OverviewSouth Operating Room (SOR) is a Level 1 Trauma Operating Room (OR) and is the main OR at OHSU. It is a large, primarily adult inpatient OR with 25 suites. The primary service lines include but are not limited to: Cardiothoracic, General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Colorectal, Bariatric, Gynecology, Oral Maxillofacial, Neurosurgery, Spine, Orthopedic, Otolaryngology, Plastics, Transplant, Urology, Vascular, Gender Affirmation, and Trauma. SOR provides intraoperative care and surgical services for populations ranging from early adolescents to geriatric populations with occasional pediatric patients. This includes care across the acuity spectrum from elective to emergency surgery. This surgical location supports approximately 14,000 cases annually or 50 cases per day Monday through Friday and 16 cases per day, on both Saturday and Sunday. SOR is open 24 hours per day, 7 days a week and has an elective schedule 7 days per week in addition to supporting acute urgent and emergent care.

Function/Duties of PositionOHSU cares for acutely and critically ill patients in our Operating Room. We provide the latest evidence-based care and have a reputation for effective teamwork. Operating Room nurses understand the importance of their independent scope of practice and engage in dependent scope of practice decision making with the team. Operating Room nurses also provide patient and family-centered care for the full spectrum of illnesses.
Required Qualifications- 1 year Intra Operative RN experience
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
