Reporting to the VP, Risk Management, the Director, Risk Management is a strategic leadership role responsible for the governance, oversight, and continued evolution of Graham's Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) program and subcontractor financial prequalification framework across Canada and the United States. Leading a team of subject matter experts and partnering with senior leaders across the organization, this highly visible position drives enterprise risk management strategies, influences critical business decisions, and delivers measurable impact on operational performance, financial outcomes, and long-term growth.
Your Role in Building What Matters - From Office to Site - Shape enterprise risk strategy and influence key business decisions by providing leadership and governance for the company's Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) program, subcontractor financial prequalification framework, and alternative risk financing initiatives across Canada and the United States
- Lead and develop a team of subject matter experts responsible for subcontractor risk assessment, financial prequalification, claims oversight, program governance, and risk financing support, creating a high-performing and collaborative environmenT
- Drive the success and continuous improvement of the SDI program by overseeing program strategy, governance, renewals, performance, and claims management, ensuring decisions align with business priorities, financial objectives, and the organization's risk appetite
- Partner with senior leaders across operations, finance, legal, and corporate services to evaluate complex subcontractor risks, support critical project decisions, and provide insights that strengthen business performance and long-term growth
- Build and manage strategic relationships with insurers, brokers, and external advisors while providing executive-level reporting on risk exposure, program performance, emerging trends, and opportunities to enhance risk mitigation outcomes
The Right Tools for the Job - Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Construction Management, or a related field. A professional insurance or risk management designation, such as CRM, is strongly preferred
- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in risk management, insurance, Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI), subcontractor prequalification, surety underwriting, or a related field, including demonstrated success leading teams and influencing senior stakeholders within complex, multi-region organizations
- Skills: Strong expertise in SDI governance, subcontractor risk assessment, financial analysis, and claims oversight, combined with exceptional leadership, communication, analytical, and relationship building skills. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the ability to manage highly confidential information are essential
