Job Overview:
The Respiratory Therapist Lead provides therapeutic, supportive, and diagnostic respiratory services and care to all RWJBH patients. Performs basic/advanced therapeutic procedures as outlined under the scope of respiratory patient care service within the section of the policy procedure manual. Transcribes and implements physician orders. Uses basic oxygen advanced assessment skills and patient information to maintain awareness of patient care needs. Oversees all orientees. Attends all Unit specific committee meetings.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Graduate of an approved school of Respiratory Care with a minimum of a diploma or A.A.S. degree in Respiratory Care (or equivalent).
- Registered Respiratory Therapist by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
- Maintain current New Jersey license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) through the American Heart Association required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of Respiratory Care experience required.
Preferred:
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) strongly preferred.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) strongly preferred.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) strongly preferred
- Proven leadership experience preferred.
Essential Functions:
Perform performance improvement activities including chart reviews, statistical analysis and assigned studies.
Demonstrate familiarity with performance improvement methods such as CQI and PDCA.
Performs all duties and responsibilities of the CRT or RRT as appropriate.
Lead and Participate in educational programs for Respiratory, Nursing and Medical staff as requested.
Develop programs and attends Appropriate internal and external training courses for continuing education.
Assist in the orientation of new staff members.
Acts as a resource to patients, families, peers, nurses and physicians as requested
Maintain and troubleshoot equipment within the department. Fulfill role of Charge Therapist if assigned.
Provides coverage for other Respiratory Care Practitioners as necessary. The Lead/Coordinator is responsible, in conjunction with Department Leadership, for development and revision of policies, procedures and guidelines for modalities in the Critical Care areas. Performs all duties and responsibilities of the CRT or RRT as appropriate. Exercises leadership and independent judgment in directing employee labor Makes recommendations regarding the ongoing performance evaluation of supervised staff and resulting actions (i.e. reward, discipline, discharge, etc.). Provides on-call coverage. Provides appropriate in-service to patients, family, physicians, nurses, and clinical employees. Performs all other duties as assigned.
