Job Description

The Unit Training Manager (UTM) & Special Boards Specialist provides integrated program management support for organizational training, professional development, and Air Force and Space Force Special Boards. The position is responsible for maintaining program accountability, monitoring requirements and suspense dates, coordinating actions across organizational and leadership levels, and providing accurate and timely status information to support workforce readiness and personnel development.

Unit Training Management
  • Manage and administer the organization's Unit Training Program in accordance with applicable DoW, Department of the Air Force, Air Force, Space Force, higher headquarters, and local guidance.
  • Track and maintain military, civilian, and contractor training requirements, qualifications, certifications, and completion status, including mandatory, recurring, ancillary, position-specific, and mission-required training.
  • Maintain accurate training records, databases, trackers, dashboards, calendars, and applicable training management systems; routinely review data to identify discrepancies, delinquent requirements, trends, and potential readiness impacts.
  • Monitor upcoming and overdue training requirements and proactively coordinate with members, supervisors, training representatives, functional managers, and organizational leadership to ensure requirements are completed within established timelines.
  • Develop recurring training metrics, reports, and leadership briefings highlighting completion status, delinquencies, upcoming requirements, trends, and areas requiring leadership attention.
  • Coordinate organization-wide training taskers and communicate new or revised training requirements, policies, procedures, and suspense dates to affected personnel.
  • Support personnel in-processing and out-processing by establishing applicable training requirements for newly assigned personnel and completing required training actions for departing personnel.
  • Develop and maintain standardized training procedures, continuity documentation, checklists, templates, and program-management tools to promote consistency, data accuracy, and efficient program execution.
  • Support inspections, assessments, audits, and compliance reviews by maintaining required documentation and providing accurate and timely program data.

Special Boards Management
  • Manage and coordinate assigned Air Force and Space Force Special Boards, developmental education opportunities, and competitive force-development programs from initial announcement through package submission, board results, and required post-board actions.
  • Monitor board announcements, eligibility criteria, calls for nominations, application requirements, milestones, and suspense dates for Intermediate and Senior Developmental Education, Professional Military Education, special selection programs, and other assigned officer, enlisted, and force-development boards.
  • Identify potentially eligible personnel based on published criteria and coordinate timely notifications with members, supervisors, and organizational leadership to maximize awareness of available development opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate board calendars, eligibility rosters, nomination trackers, package status, internal suspense dates, higher headquarters suspense dates, and board results.
  • Provide administrative guidance to applicants regarding eligibility requirements, required documentation, application procedures, routing requirements, and published submission instructions.
  • Review nomination and application packages for administrative completeness, accuracy, formatting, required documentation, signatures, endorsements, and compliance with applicable instructions and published board guidance.
  • Coordinate packages through appropriate organizational and leadership channels for required recommendations, endorsements, rankings, approvals, and final submission.
  • Establish and manage internal suspense dates and proactively track packages throughout the coordination process to provide sufficient time for applicant corrections, leadership review, and on-time submission.
  • Develop status reports, eligibility reports, nomination summaries, leadership decision-support materials, and recurring Special Boards briefings to provide leadership visibility of pending actions, upcoming opportunities, and potential issues.
  • Coordinate with servicing personnel organizations, higher headquarters, AFPC, Space Force personnel organizations, and other appropriate agencies to resolve eligibility, records, application, and submission discrepancies.
  • Maintain historical board information, templates, timelines, results, lessons learned, and continuity documentation to support consistent program execution and improve future board cycles.
  • Track board outcomes and coordinate applicable notifications and post-board administrative actions.


Job Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a related field. Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in military personnel, Unit Training Management, force development, Special Boards, or related program management functions. Air Force and/or Space Force personnel program experience preferred.

Software/Technical Experience: Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Teams, including the ability to develop and maintain complex trackers, reports, presentations, correspondence, calendars, databases, and program-management tools. Experience working with applicable Air Force and/or Space Force personnel systems and data sources is preferred.

Security Clearance: Secret

Location: Colorado Springs, CO. This position is currently hybrid, requiring 3 days on-site per week. This position will transition to a full-time, 5-day on-site schedule in the future.

Salary information below is a general guide only. Salaries are commensurate with experience and qualifications, as well as business and market considerations.

Salary Range: $110,000.00 - $125,000.00

Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Physical Demands This is largely a sedentary role mostly sitting; however, some filing maybe required . This would require the ability to move files, or boxes with file data, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary, ability to lift up to 40lbs.
Mental Demands: Reading; communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control and professionalism.
