The opportunityThe Resource Management Assistant Director, Tax is a key member of the Canadian Tax Resource Management team. The role supports the Global Compliance and Reporting (GCR) practice by advancing the development of client-serving professionals, promoting inclusive deployment, and enabling effective, comprehensive project staffing. The Assistant Director also provides functional support to the Tax Resource Management Leader and offers leadership, guidance, and coaching to fellow Resource Management team members.

Your key responsibilitiesAs an experienced Resource Manager, you will oversee the deployment, development, and capacity planning of GCR client-serving professionals. You will help execute the Resource Management strategy by aligning talent with business needs and creating meaningful career experiences. You will also collaborate closely with the Resource Management team, business leaders, and stakeholders across Canada.
Deployment:- Build strong relationships with Partners and senior leadership to ensure staffing demands are being met.
- Work closely with engagement leaders on resource planning and deployment for all levels of staff
- Maintain regular touchpoints with the Sub-Service Line (SSL) and Location Leaders on all staff programs
- You will maintain staffing information, support workforce planning activities, and contribute to the effective deployment of resources across teams.
- Demonstrate leadership and influence key deployment and capacity management decisions, providing oversight and guidance to fellow RM team members
- Maximize utilization by identifying imbalances, negotiating and reallocating resources to address staffing concerns
- Prioritize staffing decisions based on engagement risk, skills, timing, continuity and geographic considerations
- Focuses on matching engagement needs with required skills, development opportunities and engagement risk; meets with client-serving professionals to discuss development needs and identify engagement and learning opportunities as appropriate
- Manage staffing conflicts with all relevant parties, providing alternative staffing recommendations and escalating issues as appropriate
- Proactively identify unassigned resources, minimize unassigned time, and regularly audit Retain for accuracy
- Monitors outstanding project/engagement resource requests and present recommendations to engagement teams for effective staff planning and deployment
- Identify performance or morale issues with resources and address with Counsellor/Counselling Partner/HR as needed
Reporting: - Provide standardized review and analysis of robust reporting on a weekly basis to SSL and line partners, highlighting capacity concerns, hours actuals vs forecast, variances in hours from prior year actuals to current year forecasted, slippage of hours, and missing time sheets
- Provide any ad hoc type of reporting and analysis as required
- Provide regular reporting and updates to leaders in the practice to help solve staffing challenges
- Assist with the creation/maintenance of accurate personnel and client schedules
- Ensure FTE Tax Headcount Tracker is organized and accurate for the GCR practice to ensure reliability of data
Leadership/Teaming:- Identify opportunities to enhance Resource Management practices and processes.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Canadian Tax Resource Management team to share resources and leading practices.
- Partner with the Tax Talent and Campus Recruiting teams to ensure information shared for reporting is transparent, relevant, and accurate.
- Support Resource Management priorities, task forces, and projects.
To qualify for the role, you must have - Experience in a professional services firm (ideally Big 4) and/or consulting firm
- Minimum of 2 years of Resource Management experience at the Manager level
- Experience leading and managing a team of Resource Managers
- A bachelor's degree in Business, Project Management, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- Experience with forecasting or workforce planning tools is considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong knowledge of the Tax practice preferred
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
- Strong negotiation and conflict-management skills, including sound judgment about when to escalate issues
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to lead and influence without formal authority
- A strong client-service orientation
- Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel

Individual salaries within the anticipated salary ranges noted below are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity, education, relevant experience, knowledge, and applicable skill sets.
