Hill International is seeking a Resident Engineer in San Jose, California

Responsibilities

  • Administer the construction contract and review work for compliance with the Caltrans Construction Manual and all governing specifications
  • Review work progress for compliance with the contract documents
  • Proactively review the contract documents to anticipate, identify, and/or prepare change orders needed to resolve conflicts and/or recommend improvements
  • Ensure safety on the jobsite by observing contractor operations and traffic conditions, making recommendations, and taking corrective action when necessary
  • Perform field inspections of contractor's work to determine compliance with plans, specifications, special provisions, utility agreements, etc.
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate and complete project records
  • Calculate and document field quantities for payment purposes
  • Document as-built condition of constructed facility
  • Prepare contract change orders for making alterations, deviations, additions to, or deletions from the plans and specifications to ensure proper completion and construction
  • Review CPM schedule and identify and mitigate project risks
  • Complete a daily diary of pertinent activities and discussions held regarding the progress of the contractor's work and interaction with the Senior Construction Manager
  • Assist in the resolution and response to contractor disputes in a timely manner
  • Prepare draft claim reports when required


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience in construction management of heavy civil engineering projects
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California required
  • Experience as a Resident Engineer, Construction Manager, or Project Manager on State Highway System projects
  • Approximately 5 years of supervisory experience in the management of heavy civil infrastructure construction
  • Experience in the oversight of construction for Caltrans State Highway System facilities and project delivery requirements
  • Valid California Class C driver's license
  • Position is on-site in Santa Clara County

The salary range for this position is $190,000-$220,000. The offered salary will be based on the applicants qualifications, education, experience and work location.
