Description

Joining Fervo as a Reservoir Engineer focused on production forecasting and resource evaluation means owning the link between subsurface performance and corporate planning. This role builds and maintains production forecasts for long-term planning, supports Corporate Finance with technical inputs for budgeting, financing, and investor materials, and leads economic evaluations and resource reporting across the portfolio. The position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys translating complex subsurface data into clear, defensible numbers that inform capital allocation and company-level decisions.

The Reservoir Engineer will build and maintain portfolio-wide production forecasts, lead economic evaluations of development scenarios and capital projects, and own recoverable resource estimates. This role emphasizes forecast rigor, financial fluency, and clear communication of subsurface uncertainty to non-technical stakeholders.

The position collaborates closely with Corporate Finance, Reservoir, Development, and Executive teams to translate subsurface performance into the forecasts, valuations, and resource recovery used for long-term planning and corporate decision-making.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Production Forecasting & Long-Term Planning
  • Build and maintain production forecasts across the portfolio to support long-term planning, capital allocation, and corporate strategy.
  • Develop and update type curves and decline/analytical models calibrated to observed field performance.
  • Translate reservoir performance and subsurface uncertainty into probabilistic forecast ranges (P10/P50/P90) for planning and budgeting cycles.
  • Maintain the long-range plan (LRP) production forecast in coordination with Development and Corporate Finance.
  • Partner with Corporate Finance to translate reservoir forecasts into cash flow models, capital plans, and investor-facing materials.
  • Support financing processes (debt/equity raises, project finance) with technical forecast inputs and asset-level due diligence.

Economic Evaluations
  • Conduct economic evaluations of new prospects, development scenarios, and capital projects, including NPV, IRR, payback, and sensitivity analysis.
  • Support investment decisions with integrated technical and economic risk assessment across the portfolio.
  • Evaluate development, completion, and injection strategy alternatives for capital efficiency and returns.
  • Deliver clear economic recommendations to asset teams and leadership to guide portfolio prioritization.

Resource & HIIP
  • Own and maintain recoverable resource and Heat-in-Place (HIIP) estimates.
  • Promote consistent forecasting, evaluation, and reserves methodologies across projects.
  • Support development and standardization of Geothermal recovery and resource evaluation methods.

Team and Culture
  • Operate with technical independence and objectivity while maintaining strong collaborative relationships with Finance, Development, and asset teams.
  • Provide constructive challenge and thoughtful recommendations grounded in data and engineering principles.
  • Balance rigor with pragmatism in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, including finance reporting deadlines.
  • Contribute to a culture of transparency, consistency, and continuous improvement across the portfolio.
  • Be responsive and reliable in remote settings, maintaining momentum without requiring constant oversight.
  • Adapt quickly to shifting priorities, new data, and evolving planning cycles.

Qualifications

Required
  • B.S. in Engineering (Petroleum, Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline).
  • 5+ years of experience in reservoir engineering, reserves evaluation, or production forecasting; advanced degree may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Strong understanding of decline curve analysis, type curve development, and production forecasting workflows.
  • Experience with reserves estimation and reporting standards (e.g., SPE-PRMS).
  • Experience building economic models (NPV, IRR, cash flow) and sensitivity/scenario analyses.
  • Strong financial modeling skills (advanced Excel) and familiarity with reservoir forecasting or simulation tools.
  • Ability to assess subsurface and forecast uncertainty and communicate risk clearly to financial and executive audiences.
  • Strong analytical, synthesis, and communication skills.

Preferred
  • Experience in geothermal reservoir engineering, enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), or unconventional resource development.
  • Experience supporting Corporate Finance, FP&A, investor relations, or capital markets processes.
  • Experience with third-party reserves audits or certification processes.
  • Familiarity with fracture-dominated or thermally driven systems.
  • Programming/scripting skills (e.g., Python) for forecasting automation and data analysis.
  • Ability to translate detailed technical analysis into executive-level summaries.
