Full Job Description
The primary purpose of the Research Project Manager position is to apply technical expertise and scientific background and to manage and oversee the research activities from initiation through delivery for the Center of Cellular Language Intelligence. Responsibilities comprise of management of Center research projects and financial reporting. This position will develop, prepare, track, and submit mandated progress reports, coordinates compliance issues, and oversees research regulatory issues. The position will also assist in the development of scientific planning. The position will maintain professional and cooperative relationships with business partners, administrators, research scientists/investigators, and other executive level healthcare and academic professionals to ensure efficient communication, follow-thorough, and coordination of scientific short/long range goals are met.

The ideal candidate will coordinate multi-functional project timelines, deliverables, and strategic initiatives across research, administrative, and external stakeholder teams. Manage budget tracking, procurement activities, and financial reporting while providing comprehensive logistical support, meeting coordination, communications management, and follow-through on key action items.

Research Planning
• Organizes, manages, plans and implements scientific research projects and center-wide research activities.
• Maintains a Center-wide project portfolio, tracking timelines, milestones, deliverables, dependencies, risks, and outcomes across multiple research programs and collaborative initiatives.
• Creates and distributes research project work plans, timelines, meeting agendas, and action-item trackers.
• Manages the review and analysis of project milestones, deliverables, and progress toward scientific goals.
• Identifies operational risks, project delays, compliance issues, and resource needs, and escalates them to Center leadership with proposed solutions.
• Processes and manages compliance and regulatory activities associated with industry research collaborations, laboratory study agreements, and collaborative research projects.
• Provides advice and resource information for long-term strategic planning of research initiatives, consisting of options, directions, funding sources, feasibility, and alignment with Center priorities.
• Acts as a resource for faculty to identify opportunities for new research initiatives, consisting of those that involve collaborations within M. D. Anderson and extramurally.
• Coordinate tracking of research resources needed to support Center projects.
• Support the development of grant applications, philanthropic proposals, center papers, letters of support, progress report, and other scientific documents related to Center initiatives.
• Tracks Center impact metrics, consisting of grants, publications, collaborations, datasets, tools, trainees, events, and translational outcomes.
Budgetary/Financial
• Forecasts operations and finances to comprise space, personnel, budget and research planning.
• Serves as liaison to sponsor as appropriate.
• Participates in the development, preparation and submission of various scientific progress reports.
• Creates project budgets and works with internal and external staff to ensure appropriate expenses are captured.
• Develop, direct and manage the annual budget and justification of expenditures.
• Prepare annual donor reports, as required, for philanthropic funds.
• Oversee compliance activities.
Administration
• Manage business development activities by identifying and implementing new collaborative opportunities with potential internal and external partners.
• Develop and maintain collaboration with outside stakeholders and with all staff, partners and regulatory or other official bodies.
• Evaluate emerging technology, make recommendations to Director, and negotiate with producing corporations to bring or make available new technologies and services.

EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
Preferred: Master's or PhD Degree Natural sciences or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Required: Six years scientific or experimental research to include two years project management. With Preferred degree, four years scientific or experimental research experience to include one year project management.
Preferred: Coordinate multi-functional project timelines, deliverables, and strategic initiatives across research, administrative, and external stakeholder teams. Manage budget tracking, procurement activities, and financial reporting while providing comprehensive logistical support, meeting coordination, communications management, and follow-through on key action items.
