Job DescriptionThe Research Librarian provides reference and research assistance in support of the various legal and administrative departments throughout the Firm. The role participates in the organization of library materials and assists in continuing education regarding library resources. The Research Librarian works closely with and under the direction of the Director on Library and Research.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*- Provides research and reference assistance to attorneys in all practice areas in a timely and effective manner using various print and digital resources. Bills time to client/matters as appropriate.
- Provides research and reference assistance to support the functions of the various administrative departments of the firm, including but not limited to, Client Development, New Business/Conflicts, secretarial, paralegal and Managing Attorney Office.
- Performs regular monitoring of news, dockets, legislative and regulatory changes, and other subject area monitoring as necessary. Assists in the preparation of related updates, newsletters, and other communications.
- Works with Director to support the maintenance of intranet research collections by performing regular link checking and data collection/input to facilitate integration of subject-specific resources into larger firm portal.
- Provides library orientation and training in print and electronic resources to library patrons.
- Works with Innovation Department on creation of short training programs on common library research requests and introduction to library tools.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Participates in resource evaluation including pilots of new services and comparisons of resources.
- Maintains working knowledge of the library print collections, digital resources, interlibrary loan availability, document delivery, and other resources as appropriate. Shows proficiency in primary database usage, search strategy and syntax, and licensing restrictions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree required.
- MLS or MLIS Degree from an ALA accredited institution preferred. (Combination of education in a research-intensive field with relevant work experience may be considered).
- Legal research experience is required.
- 1-3 years of library experience is preferred.
- IP research experience is preferred.
- Previous law firm experience is preferred.
- Broad knowledge of library tools, systems, and resources in special libraries.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required.
- Experience with research platforms, including PACER, Courthouse News, Lexis, Westlaw, BloombergLaw, S&P Capital IQ, and Pitchbook.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills: oral, written, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple deadlines with good communication and attention to detail.
The anticipated good-faith base salary range for this position is:
- Chicago: $92,000 - $126,610 per year.
- Los Angeles: $98,400 to $135,300 per year.
- San Francisco: $105,000 to $144,584 per year.

In addition to a competitive base salary, certain positions are eligible for a comprehensive performance-based bonus, payable monthly or annually.
