Aurora Energy Research is seeking a Research Lead to join our team in our Austin, TX office.

Key Responsibilities

Overseeing the research teams of ERCOT and MISO to publish quarterly updated subscription reports, including the Power and Renewable Market Forecast, Flexible Energy Market Outlook, Nodal Market Forecast and Monthly Notes. Leading the ERCOT and MISO teams to define scope, create content, and present for the quarterly Group Meetings, which are 2-hour sessions providing data-based analytical insights on pricing, policies, market forms, energy technology advancements, project financing and other topics related to the respective power markets. Present at the Group Meetings, external conferences, workshops. Developing project plans for and independently managing multiple work streams and providing guidance and supervision to direct reports on individual project management. Generating slides and solving problems during product development; use advanced quantitative techniques and modeling to conceive, oversee and sanity check analyses. Developing a deep understanding in the power markets of ERCOT and MISO and have an excellent understanding of policies, legislative structures, reforms and developments of power markets in general, and share expert specialist knowledge internally as the go to person for more junior members of Aurora. Managing client interactions and lead the responses to client questions; build strong relationships at mid-levels of client organizations and maintain pipeline of work and show initiative in building reputation amongst potential clients. Taking accountability and ownership of managing the career and development of direct reports and mentoring of colleagues, provide trainings on technical skills and soft skills, and maintain a high standard of personal and professional behavior by providing examples and managing team expectations. Developing processes and systems or making useful contributions to company systems and policies, and actively look for business prospects and develop ideas to progress with individual contacts. Taking initiative to improve team effectiveness and build an open friendly relationship with the team. Telecommuting Permitted.

What we are looking for

Minimum Requirements: Master's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Technology and Policy, or closely related quantitative discipline

Special Skills:

1. Knowledge of power markets and power market modelling
2. Problem solving skills to represent real world complexities through modelling and enhance existing modelling capabilities
3. Analytical tools such as Python
4. Sharing best practices knowledge with colleagues and training junior colleagues in relevant technical fields
5. Managing multiple complex workstreams at the same time.
6. Improving product development and project delivery processes
7. Communicating key ideas and analysis to senior industry clients
8. Networking at external events
9. Coaching junior members on the team with regular feedback
10. Motivating team members to deliver high quality analysis and deliverables

Any suitable combination of education, training and experience is acceptable. Experience can be gained through coursework, scholastic achievement, or work experience.
