MGE Energy, Inc. is a public utility holding company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. It is the parent company of Madison Gas and Electric, which generates and distributes electricity to 154,000 customers in Dane County, Wisconsin, and purchases and distributes natural gas to 163,000 customers in seven south-central and western Wisconsin counties. MGE Energy's roots in the Madison area date back more than 150 years. The company was incorporated in 2001.
