Job Description

OVERVIEW:

The University of Washington Department of Bioethics and Humanities (B&H) has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Research Coordinator 3 to support a recently awarded NIH Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications (ELSI) four-year R01 focused on cloud-based data sharing and analysis platforms and their promise to 'democratize' the genomic data sciences.

Reporting to Dr. Malia Fullerton, the Research Coordinator 3 is responsible for independently coordinating and providing overall administrative, logistical, and analytical support for the project. The grant comprises a data science aim assessing patterns of genomic data access and use in federal data repositories before and after the proliferation of cloud platforms and a qualitative aim focused on interviewing different classes of underrepresented genomic data scientists located throughout the United States. The grant will culminate in a national meeting of expert advisors, platform developers, and other interested parties to discuss findings and propose potential approaches to promote more inclusive and equitable cloud-based genomic data access and use. The position involves close collaboration with principal investigators, the interdisciplinary research team, external collaborators and advisers, and research participants.

This role is designed for a professional research coordinator capable of applying established research methods and administrative procedures to projects of moderate complexity while contributing to ongoing improvements in research operations, data management, and study implementation. The position also offers mentored experience in qualitative research methods, including interviewing, qualitative data analysis, and dissemination activities.

This position is hybrid preferred, but virtual with periodic travel will be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research Coordination and Study Operations (50%)
• Coordinate diverse research activities and project timelines across a multi-year R01
• Assist in the development and implementation of research protocols, study instruments, interview guides, and data collection procedures
• Develop and maintain systems for organizing research materials, study documentation, and project deliverables
• Implement and monitor data collection activities and quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with research standards
• Collaborate with investigators and external advisors to facilitate study implementation and project coordination
• Participate in regular research team meetings and provide updates on project progress and operational needs
• Facilitate quarterly virtual meetings with external advisers, including preparation, execution, and follow-up
• Coordinate planning and on-site implementation of an in-person, national meeting in the final grant year, including domestic travel (anticipated in the Bethesda, MD area)

Data Collection, Management, and Analysis (30%)
• Schedule, coordinate, and (where appropriate) conduct qualitative research interviews
• Review, proofread, and manage interview transcripts, observational notes, and related study records
• Assist with qualitative data analysis activities, including coding and use of qualitative data analysis software
• Contribute to the management, organization, and reporting of research data and study outcomes
• Support preparation of summaries, reports, presentations, and other dissemination materials for research sponsors, conferences, and publications

Research Administration and Compliance (20%)
• Track project milestones, deadlines, and deliverables to ensure timely completion of research activities
• Maintain research-related documentation and assist with compliance and regulatory requirements as needed
• Support communication and coordination with collaborators, stakeholders, and research participants
• Assist with preparation of scholarly manuscripts, presentations, abstracts, and other research dissemination activities
• Perform additional research and administrative duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g. bioethics, public health, social sciences, policy) and four years of relevant experience
• Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration

• Successful at working both independently and within a team environment
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the context of collaborating and coordinating with a wide variety of stakeholders
• Highly organized with excellent time management
• Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office 365 tools, including OneDrive and SharePoint
• Proficiency with managing web conferencing (e.g., Zoom) and calendaring tools

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Prior experience with qualitative research including conducting qualitative data analysis, using QDA software (e.g., Atlas.ti, Dedoose), and/or conducting qualitative interviews
• Prior research coordination and/or other project management experience
• Prior experience with event planning and/or coordination
