About the RoleWe are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Associate to join our Watertown, MA team to support the drug discovery projects and exploration, delivering high-quality scientific data and insights to drive small molecule drug discovery. Specifically, this position will carry out and optimize crystallography and biophysical experiments alongside colleagues within both the multi-disciplinary Lead Discovery organization across biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, and protein production, as well as the broader research and development organization including biology, computational chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. The ideal candidate will take a lead on lab equipment operation/maintenance, execute on structural experiments, and effectively communicate results to colleagues within Lead Discovery and project teams.
Responsibilities:- Become a key contributor to our internal Structural Biology and Biophysics teams, supporting our capability to provide both routine and novel insights to multiple drug programs.
- Work with Treeline Lab Operations staff and external vendors to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
- Collaborate with other members of the Lead Discovery team (protein sciences, biochemistry, mass spectometry) to characterize small molecule ligand binding and establish SAR.
Qualifications:- BS./M.S. degree in a scientific or technical field related to biology, biochemistry, or chemistry and 2+ years work experience in life sciences sector.
- Ability to maintain and operate sensitive lab equipment, like liquid handlers, automated imagers, and microscopes.
- General laboratory experience and knowledge: pipetting, preparing buffer solutions, etc.
- Ability to work efficiently and deliver detailed results within defined timelines and to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with protein expression or protein activity and binding assays.
- Preference for candidates with industry experience or academic training in some aspects of the X-ray crystallography workflow (setting screens, crystal optimization and harvesting) and biophysical characterization of protein or small molecule interactions (SPR, BLI, MST, ITC, etc).
- Working knowledge of a Linux computation environment and/or Shell/python scripting is a plus.
- Enthusiasm for science and working in a team environment that values good work and rapid progress.
This position is classified as exempt. The anticipated annual base salary range for candidates who will work in Watertown is $92,173 - $106,882. The final base salary offered to the successful candidate will be dependent upon several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and length of experience within the job, and other factors.
