Position summary
Department / Research Program: IDIGH, Translation Research In Inflammatory Bowel Disease

The Research Associate is responsible for supporting the translational clinical research program on Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), under the supervision of Dr. Matthieu Allez, Bruce Kaufman Chair in IBD and senior clinician-scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). The program combines clinical investigation, translational research, and advanced data science to address fundamental questions regarding disease pathogenesis, treatment response, disease progression, and postoperative recurrence in Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

General Duties
• Actively participates in the execution of ongoing research projects focused on Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, including clinical, translational, and multi-omics studies,
• Contributes to computational and systems biology analyses of large-scale multi-omics datasets (e.g., transcriptomics, proteomics) and integrates these with clinical, endoscopic, imaging, and pathological phenotypes from prospective IBD cohorts,
• Supports projects on biomarker discovery, host-microbiome interactions, and precision medicine approaches for predicting therapeutic response and disease outcomes,
• Establishes research methods and protocol design, advances research initiatives and troubleshoots methodological or design issues,
• Is responsible for a range of administrative tasks, including preparation of grant applications and research protocols,
• Supports and supervises members of the lab in their research projects, and provides training to new students and staff,
• Reviews and evaluates research findings, determines results, and prepares reports and manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication,
• Participates in local, national, and international collaborations, including with multidisciplinary teams of clinician-scientists, immunologists, microbiologists, pathologists, bioinformaticians, and biostatisticians,
• Performs other related duties as required by the immediate supervisor.

Education / Experience

Education: Doctorate Degree
Field of Study: Computational and Systems Biology

Work Experience: Two (2) - Five (5) years

Required Skills
• Knowledge of French is required.
• An advanced knowledge of oral and written English is required, as the position requires regular and complex contact with researchers or international students who are exclusively proficient in English. The position also requires complex writing or in-depth analysis of documents in English related to a research project.
• Prior experience as a postdoctoral researcher, research assistant, or research associate,
• Experience in project coordination and management,
• Experience in statistical analysis, bioinformatics, or the analysis of large clinical and biological datasets (R, Python, or equivalent),
• Solid experience in scientific writing (peer-reviewed publications and grant applications),
• Intellectual and scientific rigor, and strong interest in translational biomedical research,
• Strong interpersonal skills for working effectively within a multidisciplinary research and clinical team,
• Autonomy and ability to work with minimal supervision,
• Ability to interact effectively with collaborators, funding bodies, and multidisciplinary teams.

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Work Site: Glen Site, 1001 Decarie Blvd.
