Full Job Description
The Group

Fidelity's Fixed Income Division is one of the world's leading fixed income managers with over $2 trillion in fixed income assets managed by a staff of more than 200 investment professionals. At Fidelity, we combine fundamental research on debt issuers with macroeconomic and quantitative analysis to develop investment decisions that aim to maximize risk-adjusted total return for our clients. The Fixed Income Division is headquartered in Merrimack, New Hampshire.

The Role

We are seeking a Research Analyst for our Investment Grade Research Team covering a subset of US banks and fincos as well as Yankee banks. We are looking for an individual who will combine in-depth research coverage with well- developed relative value skills for our bond funds and experience underwriting minimal credit risk determinations for our money market funds. The role requires the analyst to be willing and able to underwrite credit risk, and to be open to covering new issuers and new opportunities in the market. Time will be roughly evenly split between supporting Fidelity's bond and money market fund investment processes.

The Value You Deliver
  • Provide thorough fundamental analysis and research coverage of assigned companies.
  • Communicate credit opinions, relative value views and minimal credit risk determinations through published research as well as in-person meetings.
  • Generate investment ideas across a variety of sectors and instruments in a timely and well-communicated manner, as well as respond to investment opportunities in the market.
  • Participate in regular discussions on investment strategy and contribute to the ongoing development of the investment process.
  • Work closely with members of the investment team on a range of fixed income investment mandates. Coverage responsibilities will include companies that may be owned across the Fixed Income funds.
  • Work with investment professionals across Fidelity globally, including members of the equity, high income and alternatives and asset allocation teams.
  • Collaborate in a heavily team-based investment process.
  • Maintain strong relationships with issuers, rating agencies and analysts while also traveling regularly.
  • Work with junior members of the research team to delegate and oversee tasks to support the research team and investment process.

The research analyst will interact regularly with other analysts, portfolio managers and traders across a variety of investment mandates. Our investment process is team-based. The successful analyst will contribute regularly and effectively to group activities. You will report to the Managing Director of Research for Financials and Structured Products.

The Expertise and Skills You Bring

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and attributes:
  • Five years or more experience as a fixed income analyst; prior experience covering US banks/fincos and Yankee banks (ideally Japan and/or Canada) is strongly preferred
  • Well-developed relative value ability and experience underwriting minimal credit risk for money market funds
  • Demonstrated success making fixed income investment recommendations
  • Strong analytical and technology skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Good time management
  • Flexibility and skill in handling the demands of a broad and diverse coverage load
  • Ability to think creatively, work collaboratively and make decisions quickly, often with limited information
  • An ability to engage with portfolio managers, traders and quantitative analysts
  • The ability to develop and present investment ideas and investment information in a clear and effective way
  • A high level of enthusiasm for discovering and responding to new investment opportunities
  • Progress towards a CFA or an MBA is preferred
  • The confidence and the maturity to lead meetings internally and externally
  • Exhibit the highest level of personal and professional integrity
