JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Rental Operations Manager

Reports to: Corporate Machine Rental Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Division: HPC

Department: Rentals

Locations: Waipahu

POSITION SUMMARY: The Rental Operations Manager is responsible for all operational activities associated with rental transaction processing from inception to return to ready status, all in a manner consistent with delivering Hawthorne and Caterpillar annual business plan goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Responsible for the overall supervision, development and performance management of Rental Coordinators, Rental Service Manager, and Heavy Truck Driver(s) with a clear emphasis on safety culture development.
  2. Works with direct supervisor continuously analyzing rental fleet performance, inventory levels, technician efficiency, return to ready metrics, and customer loyalty to ensure alignment and achievement of utilization, PAD, and ROI targets and objectives.
  3. Maintains fleet condition through PM tracking.
  4. Reviews WIP with service team.
  5. Responsible for all trucking activities (pickup and delivery) including regulatory compliance of in-house or outside haulers.
  6. Ensures technicians are properly trained on products offered by Hawthorne. Works with Allied vendor manufacturers on training program offerings.
  7. Leads Rental Protection Plan claim process.
  8. Maintains good customer relationships.
  9. Interfaces interdepartmentally, promoting good working relationships.
  10. Interfaces with caterpillar factory representatives on matters pertaining to rental business.
  11. Responsible for other duties, as assigned.


EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
  1. Must have a high school degree or equivalent, Bachelor's degree in Business Administration preferred.
  2. Must have a minimum of 5-7 years progressive experience in equipment/rental management in the construction industry.
  3. Must have a minimum of 3 years of management experience.
  4. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  5. Must have the ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  6. Must have a positive attitude and be a self-starter.
  7. Must be organized and a good planner with the ability to set and meet goals.
  8. Must have the ability to set and meet goals.
  9. Must have PC skills, specifically experience with Microsoft Office.
  10. Must have a valid State of Hawai'i Driver's License with a good driving record.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  1. Walking and moving about on foot, often up and down stairs.
  2. Handing: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
  3. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous paperwork.
  4. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  5. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  6. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  7. Vision: Read computer and paperwork.
  8. Talking: Communications by phone and in person.
  9. Sitting: Sits at desk. Sits for long periods of time.
  10. Climbing: Climb on and off earthmoving machines/engines.
  11. Travel: Frequent (monthly) day trips to assigned branches, with occasional overnights for company meetings, Caterpillar training, etc.


ENVIRONMENTAL:

Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.

Temp/Weather: Works in an office environment, with occasional shop requirements.
