Full Job Description
We are seeking a Renewable Engineer to support the design, development, and technical performance of utility-scale inverter-based resource designs such as battery energy storage, solar photovoltaic, wind and hybrid renewable projects across the US. This role can be based in any of our West offices (Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego) or our South offices (Austin, Dallas, Houston).
This role requires the individual to work closely with the engineering design team, interfacing with owners, operators, OEMs, EPCs, and market participants to ensure designs meet technical performance requirements and compliance objectives. You will play a key role in translating technical requirements into actionable designs while supporting optimization, reporting, and system performance.
What makes this role unique is the ability to combine hands-on technical depth in renewable energy systems with client-facing advisory work, exposure to multiple ISO markets, and collaboration across Arup's global energy, power systems, and advisory teams.
The Opportunity
• Serve as a technical designer / lead supporting the design and operational performance of BESS, solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy assets.
• Design PV / Wind / BESS facilities that meet the asset performance requirements and system availability targets, performance guarantees, and identify underperformance and recommending corrective actions.
• Interpret equipment technical specifications, and interconnection requirements, translating requirements into design KPIs and workflows.
• Support system design, SCADA, design and data analytics activities, including monitoring, and degradation analysis.
• Assist with commissioning, testing, and operational readiness activities, coordinating across vendors, contractors, and internal teams.
• Prepare clear, client-facing technical reports, dashboards, and presentations communicating asset health, risks, and optimization opportunities.
• Track and assess evolving regulatory and market requirements across ISO markets (e.g., SRP, NYISO, ISO-NE, CAISO) and their implications design and for asset operations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across Arup to deliver integrated engineering services.
The Skills
• A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Civil, Mechanical, or a related field.
• Minimum 4+ years of experience in utility scale energy storage, solar, renewable energy asset management, or power systems operations.
• Hands-on experience with design of utility scale Wind / PV / BESS systems, commissioning, EMS/SCADA systems, and / or asset performance monitoring.
• Familiarity with ISO energy markets and storage participation or interconnection requirements.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical and contractual topics for clients and stakeholders.

Houston Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Houston is $98,200 to $120,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Houston will differ.
