GRE HERC Services LLC is currently looking for a full-time
Relief Operator at its downtown Minneapolis facility. GRE HERC Services LLC operates the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (HERC), on behalf of Hennepin County. HERC helps the county manage waste by burning garbage to create energy for the electric grid and steam for nearby buildings.
In the Relief Operator position, you act as backup for the Control Room Operator and the Auxiliary, Utility and Crane Operator positions as needed. You also operate and inspect the boilers and their associated systems.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Act as relief for the Control Room Operator in monitoring, controlling and maintaining all of the generating plant operations and systems of the facility
- Monitor and maintain boilers and their related systems, including fans, grates, ash and emission systems, to ensure they are functioning properly
- Effectively and safely operate and maintain the front-end loader, crane, ash loader and all related equipment when assigned to one of the crew positions
- Relieve operators for breaks and vacations
- Exchange necessary information with team members and shift supervisors
- Assist in the training of new operators
- Report any malfunctions or potential equipment problems to the shift supervisor
- Perform required documentation and record keeping activities
To qualify for this position you must:
- Hold a current MN 1st Class A Boiler License
- Complete an ASME Provisional or MN Waste Combustor provisional and Utility, Crane and Auxiliary on-the-job training (OJTs) within one year of starting the position
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and additional technical training
- Know and practice excellent safety practices
- Possess strong communication, problem solving and flexibility skills
- Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and physically qualify for use of respirator equipment
- Must have a valid driver's license
This position normally works a 6AM - 4:30PM shift Monday - Thursday or 6 AM - 4:30 PM shift Tuesday - Friday. There is flexibility in the schedule depending on plant needs and situations.
