General Objectives:

Reporting to the Maintenance Asset Health Advisor the Maintenance Reliability Engineer (RE) is a salary exempt role that typically works a 4-3 schedule. The primary role of the RE is to provide technical support to the Open Pit Division in the form of Data Analysis, Failure Analysis, and Root Cause Investigation. This analytical work is used to identify risks that could adversely affect business operations. In doing so the RE will work with the Maintenance Department to identify opportunities to improve the reliability of Open Pit Equipment. This role will focus on leading the mine in loss elimination, risk management and life cycle asset management.

Key Areas of Responsibilities & Duties:

The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:
  • In full partnership with the Mine Maintenance and Operations teams, facilitate/lead root cause failure analysis for major component failures on key open pit equipment.
  • Undertake analysis of machine performance data including MTTFFAPW (Mean Time To First Failure After Planned Work), OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), MTTFFAPM (Mean Time To First Failure After Preventative Maintenance), etc. and in conjunction with MineCare Data Analysist role, identify, quantify, and implement opportunities that will improve overall equipment reliability and performance.
  • Work with Maintenance Supervisors and Planners to track progress and value of improvement initiatives that are undertaken within the department
  • Maximize maintenance efficiency to ensure maximum cost benefit while lessening the interruption to production using predictive and maintenance techniques and systems
  • Participates in the development of design and installation specifications along with commissioning plans. Participates in the development of criteria for and evaluation of equipment and technical MRO suppliers and technical maintenance service providers. Develop acceptance test and inspection criteria. Participates in the final check-out of new installations.
  • Provide Leadership and Support to ensure reliability and maintainability of equipment by identifying gaps in key equipment Maintenance Strategies. Work with Maintenance team to modify strategies as needed.
  • Develop historical data through observation and analysis, which will be used to conclude component and equipment lifecycles. This data will be useful for budgeting equipment/component replacements.
  • In cooperation with the Maintenance team, develop solutions for repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect equipment reliability
  • Maintain accurate data management and record keeping of maintenance history
  • Support and grow a culture of continuous improvement within the maintenance department
  • Report on standard maintenance measures that are directly related to the production fleets - namely: availability, mean repair duration, mean time between maintenance, component usage and cost (actual versus budget) monthly
  • Oversite of bulk oil and fuel cleanliness standards
  • Lead all predictive technologies employed in the Maintenance Department (Oil Analysis, Vibration, Thermography, MineCare, etc.)
  • Contribute to MSHA investigations when required. In addition, be involved with any remediation that may be required - associated with citations/recommendations from MSHA audits
  • Performs duties and activities in a manner that conforms to all safety practices and other policies, procedures and standards that are established by the company or required by law
  • Performs additional duties as required


Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 5 years practical reliability engineering experience in a mining or related maintenance field
  • Experience in NDT (Non-Destructive Testing)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills: Communicate regularly, both written and oral in a wide range of forums
  • Time Management: Ability to pace own work and work unsupervised. Capable of adjusting priorities when necessary
  • Ability to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions as needed
  • Excelled proficiency with computer skills and software: Microsoft projects (GANTT Chart), AUTOCAD, Microsoft Office and a CMMS
  • Must be able to multi-task and change priorities quickly, while recognizing when decisions need to be elevated
  • Local candidates preferred


Required Experience:
  • Mechanical/Electrical trade or Bachelor qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Capability to lead, mentor and develop staff
  • Mechanical qualification in Maintenance Planning/Asset Management preferred
  • Qualification as a certified maintenance and reliability professional preferred
  • Experience in creating Financial Analysis reports (NPV, IRR, ROI, basic accounting, etc.)
  • Experience in Mobile Maintenance Reliability and Maintenance Planning preferred
  • Experience managing or supervising an equipment reliability program preferred
  • Experience with dispatch systems such as Modular, Jigsaw, Mine Star, etc. preferred
  • Experience with Reporting Software tools such as Power View, Power BI, etc. preferred
  • Exposure to Project Management tools and techniques preferred
  • Valid driver's license
