Release Train Engineer

This is a remote position.

The Veterans Affairs business unit helps transform the VA into a modern digital services organization where Veteran outcomes are at the center of every effort. We partner with the VA to design and deliver seamless user experiences for Veterans, their families and caregivers, and VA employees. By applying better practices in service design, product management, and technology, we enable the VA to increase the use, quality, and reliability of services and decrease the time Veterans spend waiting for outcomes.

Primary Responsibilities:

As a Release Train Engineer, you will facilitate an Agile Release Train supporting a large federal enterprise cloud platform, coordinating multiple agile teams to deliver value predictably within a Scaled Agile (SAFe) environment. You will lead program-level ceremonies, manage cross-team dependencies, and help the train meet its scope, schedule, and quality commitments. Primary expectations of a Release Train Engineer include:
  • Facilitating Program Increment (PI) planning and other program-level SAFe events
  • Coordinating dependencies, risks, and impediments across multiple agile teams
  • Driving the Agile Release Train toward predictable delivery and PI objective attainment
  • Maintaining the program board and tracking and communicating delivery status to stakeholders
  • Coaching teams, Scrum Masters, and stakeholders on SAFe practices
  • Supporting continuous improvement of flow, cadence, and team health across the train
  • Coordinating with product management and program leadership to align priorities
  • Proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigations with program leadership
  • Communicating effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Responsible for hiring, performance management, timecard reviews, PTO management and team development


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's and 3+ years of experience; relevant experience may be substituted for education
  • Experience facilitating agile delivery across multiple teams in a SAFe environment
  • Experience with agile project management tools
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Public Trust / suitability determination


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) or SAFe Program Consultant certification
  • Experience coordinating large, multi-team technology programs

Actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and responsibility.
