Full Job Description
Position Summary:

In conjunction with all clinical departments and physicians, the Rehabilitation Engineer I is involved with the design, development, modification and application of rehabilitative devices, assistive technology and therapeutic equipment to assist patients in achieving greater independence. This position involves working to address problems related to wheelchairs and mobility, corrective postural positioning, independent living, workplace modification, adaptive driving and assistive technology for both personal and therapeutic environments/use. This position's main focus is to help increase the patient's function, comfort, safety and overall independence utilizing engineering principles of design and manufacture.

Location: 3425 S Clarkson St, Englewood, CO 80113

Shift: Days; M-F 8 am-4:30 pm MST

Compensation: $36.93/ Hour - $53.18 Hour; exempt.

Position Requirements:
  • Licensure/Certification/Registrations: None
  • Education: A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field is required.
  • Experience: 1-3 years experience in medical device, adaptive equipment or product design; rehabilitation, biomedical or biomechanical experience preferred.
  • Skills & Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills, a professional demeanor and communication are needed to succeed in a clinical service setting. Effective time and time management with the ability to quickly adapt to changing requirements. Demonstrated interdisciplinary teamwork as well as small team engineering experience. Fluent in modern parametric CAD software, additive manufacturing processes using polymers and metal alloys, and traditional machining and CNC processes. Product development including specification generation, design evaluation and material/manufacturing procurement. Proficient in technical and process documentation, experience with user-facing instructions. Experience with PCB software, manufacturing, assembly and debugging.

Essential Functions:
  • Generate project specifications and requirements for adaptive equipment. Design, build and test solutions with patients. Manufacture equipment using machine tools and outside professional services. Write user manuals and production procedures. Interface with patients to install and educate on the use of adaptive equipment.
  • Provide assistive technology consultation and assessment for patients and family members. Consult with patients, family members and therapists to identify the potential need for assistive technology. Manufacture and/or construct solutions in response to patient review or assessment.
  • Modify, assemble and install commercial adaptive equipment ensuring that manufacturer's instructions, documentation, testing, inspection and quality are carried out where needed. Educate patients and caregivers on the use and care of equipment.
  • Track costs and time associated with specific activities in accordance with established reporting requirements. Work with the Business Office to bill for services provided.
  • Perform diagnostics/maintenance/repair clinical and therapy equipment; work with manufacturers and technical support to troubleshoot and document maintenance and repair. Generate hospital specific maintenance procedures.
