Reports to: Nurse Manager
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Salary: $38.77 to $39.60 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable)
Shifts: Days/Evenings/Nights/Weekends/Holidays[redacted]h, [redacted]h, [redacted]h, [redacted]h, [redacted]h
Status: Permanent Full-Time

Position Summary

As a member interprofessional Team, the REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE practices in accordance with relevant legislation/standards, the UHN Professional Practice Model and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN to provide compassionate, collaborative and competent care, while meeting the legal and ethical requirements of the profession.

The Operating Room at TWH has 17 OR Suites and 2 Block Rooms for Regional Anesthesia. The OR has the unique ability to provide technologically advanced investigations and treatment in image guided brain and spinal surgery. Many opportunities for additional education throughout the year including the Krembil Nursing Awards.

The majority of patients require the following types of practice:
  • Neurosurgery
  • Spine Surgery
  • Orthopedic Surgery
  • Hand and Plastic Surgery
  • General Surgery
  • Urology Surgery
  • Ophthalmology Surgery
  • Robotics

Duties
  • Contributing to the patient assessment process
  • Implementing patient care plans that include performing and/or providing assistance that include a limited range of strategies and interventions
  • Collaborating with other members of the multi-disciplinary health care team
  • Acting as patient advocate; contributing to the smooth functioning of the department
  • Attending seminars and workshops to facilitate personal and professional growth
  • Performs the duties of the scrub nurse consistent with the job description as assigned; performing other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Practical Nurse required.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification required.
  • Flexible and able to work effectively and efficiently within a interdisciplinary patient care team.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • Demonstrated good manual dexterity
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Completion of college, or other approved Registered Practical Nursing program including practicum experience
  • Completion of recognized certificated operating room nursing course.
