Full Job Description
Type: Full-Time (75 Hours Bi-Weekly)

Pay: $68.83 - $82.03 depending upon years of experience

Job Summary:

The staff pharmacist interprets, compounds, and dispenses medications and other pharmaceutical supplies, using standard physical and chemical procedures to fill prescriptions entered or issued by physicians, and other qualified prescribers. Provides drug information to physicians, other professional personnel, patients and their families, and/or significant others. Supervises and checks the work of pharmacy technicians, interns, and students. Monitors drug profiles for contraindications, incompatibilities, and allergic and dosing errors, and documents interventions as required by the Pharmacy Department's Performance Improvement Plan.

Responsibilities:

  • Compounds and dispenses pharmaceuticals in all areas of the pharmacy.
  • Provides drug information to physicians, other professional personnel, patients and their families and/or significant others.
  • Performs special assignments as directed by the Director, Assistant Director, Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator or Senior Pharmacist.
  • Supervises and checks work of pharmacy aides, non-registered pharmacists and other personnel.
  • Supervises pharmacy interns (students).
  • Maintains in proper form all records required relating to purchase and dispensing of controlled drugs.
  • Prepares daily charges for Data Processing.
  • Monitors drug profiles for contraindications, incompatibilities, allergic and dosing errors, documents interventions as required by the Pharmacy Department's Performance Improvement Plan
  • Instruct patients upon discharge regarding proper use of medications.
  • Enforces automatic stop policy of hospital.
  • Issues controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records as required by law and pharmacy policies.
  • Participates in pharmacy orientation programs, pharmacy staff meetings, and in-service educational programs.
  • Participates in stock control programs


Requirements:

  • Graduate from an approved School of Pharmacy
  • Must possess current license to practice as registered pharmacist in N.Y.S.
  • Must fulfill NY State required continuing education for pharmacist.
  • Completion of 1 year pharmacy internship
  • 2 years hospital pharmacy experience
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interpret and understand written prescriptions, formularies, and reference texts, as well as for presenting data and information on pharmaceuticals to physicians, staff, and patients
