The base salary will be $67,680 - $96,590 per annum. Starting salary will be aligned with the successful candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated qualifications.

ResponsibilitiesWestern is committed to helping students who are experiencing challenges get back to thriving by facilitating a coordinated response at both the individual and community level. Reporting to the Team Lead, Nursing, the Registered Nurse (RN) (Mental Health) will provide primary care, including comprehensive assessment and triage for clients in the Health & Wellness Clinic who present with mental health issues. The RN will work within the context of a collaborative interdisciplinary team reflecting the principles of patient centred care within an university setting. The role ensures that students are provided with the highest standard of mental health care and service, in a timely, caring and inclusive manner assisting the university in meeting its responsibilities of providing holistic and safe opportunities for students to learn and thrive.
QualificationsEducation:
- Registered Nurse from a recognized School of Nursing
- A member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
Experience:
- 3 years of experience in the following:
- Experience providing patient care across the age continuum and dealing with the spectrum of health care issues
- 1 year of recent, related experience working in an acute mental health care program
- Experience with the principles of health promotion, including immunizations, vaccinations, communicable diseases, sexual health and harm reduction measures
- Experience in public health, emergency, urgent care and crisis intervention
- Experience with phlebotomy skills in a clinic setting preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of nursing principles, assessment and technical skills
- Knowledge of community services and services across the mental health care continuum preferred
- Ability to source new information resources for patients to seek resolution to challenges through research
- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit
- Communication skills to listen to the complete message, solicit more information as required, and give feedback on the message received
- Demonstrated ability to conduct a mental health care assessment for intervention and treatment
- Ability to effectively present information, and conduct information sessions
- Verbal communication skills to translate information into easily understood terms, summarize information, and provide a rationale for action
- Ability to think innovatively and propose new services or delivery models that meet the needs of a diverse range of clients
- Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information
- Ability to apply regulations or professional standards to own work
- nterviewing skills to counsel students and address problems, questions or concerns
- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated crisis assessment and intervention skills
- Ability to work independently and exercise a high degree of initiative, innovation and good judgment in decision-making
- Problem solving skills and sound professional judgment, especially regarding confidential/sensitive matters
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
