The Richmond Behavioral Health Authority is seeking a full-time Registered Nurses (RN) in our Crisis Stabelization Unit (CSU) to perform difficult skilled human support and administrative work administering daily medications, providing daily medical assessments, ordering medications, managing medication administration records, transcribing doctor's orders, drawing blood, documenting activities, attending clinical staffing, and training meetings, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Nursing Supervisor. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
Essential Functions
Admits clients to the program; obtains physician orders; orders medications; collaborates with pharmacy; transcribes orders.
Administers medications both intramuscularly and orally.
Completes medically related assessments including taking vital signs.
Conducts comprehensive medical and psychiatric review for clients; provides individual assessments.
Reviews, tracks, prepares and distributes a daily census
Facilitates psycho-educational groups for patients
Supervises staff on assigned shift in the absence of Nursing Supervisor; oversees, monitors, and manages unit operations.
Draws blood and performs urine drug screens; labels specimens via computer printout; administers and interprets TB and COVID tests; processes gel top blood tubes via centrifuge; assists, monitors, and tracks lab results.
Maintains thorough documentation of daily activities including nursing and treatment services; documents services within 24hrs
Attends and participates in treatment team, as appropriate; attends staff meetings as required.
Coordinates appropriate level of nursing services to clients to include monitoring, administration and documentation of injections, vena punctures and other nursing services; collaborates with treatment providers.
Schedules lab tests, injections and electrocardiograms
Responds to medical emergency situations and calls emergency medical services for clients and staff when warranted.
Enters data into computer database for new clients; updates client data when needed; research client information/insurance status.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This vacancy is for day shift and the candidate will be required to work 3, 12 hr shifts per week. They will also be required to work rotating weekends that will presently be every 3 weeks.
Position Requirements
Education and Experience
Associate's degree with coursework in nursing and moderate experience working with individuals with mental illnesses, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifying staff will be eligible for a $7,500.00 sign-on bonus as defined by the terms and conditions of the approved sign-on bonus policy.
Special Requirements
Valid driver's license in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Current license as a Registered Nurse issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Ability to qualify as QMHP or QMHP-T
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or obtained during orientation).
Training in verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention (or obtained during orientation).
