Job Objective: A Registered Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients as established by the Nursing Practice Act of the Board of Registered Nursing of the State of California and as guided by policies and procedures of the Medical Center.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Nursing Process

• Apply nursing process in direct patient care.
• Provides accurate assessment and documentation of physiological, psychosocial, cultural, developmental, socioeconomic, and spiritual needs of patients as evidenced by assessment within time frame appropriate for level of care
• Provides logical sequence of action, updates nursing care plan as evidenced by notations on care plan, provides evaluation each shift of patient's progress in relation to the patient care plan, if applicable to area of care
• Provides Information to patient/family relating to educational resources available, Directs patient/family educational process
• Provides discharge planning beginning on admission with appropriate referrals and update as required by the patient
• Adheres to the admission and transfer criteria
• Adheres to all current policies and procedures in providing patient care and seek clarification if needed.
• Evaluates and documents outcomes of medical, nursing, and ancillary team interventions
• Incorporates time management skills in accomplishing care

Education and Experience:

Education
• Adheres to required educational standards

• Demonstrates knowledge and competency on hospital information technologies used in the designated patient care area.
• Successfully completes written and practical competencies annually or otherwise as assigned.

Experience
• Two years' acute care nursing preferred; new grad training provided as appropriate

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:
• Current California Registered Nursing license
• BCLS Certification
• ACLS, PALS, and/or other additional Certifications required for some specialty areas

*Resuscitation credentials such as (BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc.) are required before completion of orientation period.

Job Objective: A Registered Nurse who is responsible for the nursing care of patients in the Progressive Care setting guided by policies and procedures of the Progressive Care Unit and hospital.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Nursing Process:
    1. Applies nursing process in direct patient care

i. Assessment of physiological, psychosocial, educational, cultural, and spiritual needs of patient as evidenced by written assessment within one hour of admission and visual assessment within fifteen minutes of arrival.

ii. Documents written assessment every four hours on HTR flow sheet

iii. Reassesses patient's needs every four hours and more often when necessary and documents in HTR flow sheet and patient care plan.

iv. Provides further interventions as necessary and re-evaluates outcomes.
    1. Care of acutely ill patients

i. Monitors vital sign, i.e. EKG, Sa02, etc. and intervene as necessary

ii. Initiate emergency medications and IV drips, i.e. Lidocaine, Dopamine, Dobutamine, nitroglycerin, etc.

iii. Monitor invasive lines, i.e. central lines, arterial lines, etc.

iv. Monitor ventilator patients and intervene when necessary

v. Operate various pain management equipment, i.e. PCA, Epidural, etc.

vi. Assess patients for respiratory depression and/or arrest and intervene immediately, if necessary, i.e. CPR, use Ambu bag, chin lift maneuvers airways, etc.

vii. Responds to codes in unit

viii. Ensures that patients have a safe post-operative/post-procedural period including conscious sedation

ix. Provides age specific and disease specific care and education to patients/families relating to post procedural care
  1. Nursing Care Delivery

1. Demonstrates knowledge of patient classification system

2. Demonstrates knowledge of staffing guidelines for Progressive Care unit

3. Demonstrates knowledge of conscious sedation
  1. Technical Equipment Operation
    1. Operates technical equipment safely, efficiently and accurately

i. Pressure line set up and maintenance

ii. Cardiac monitors

iii. Insertion, maintenance, withdrawal of blood form arterial line, and removal of arterial line

iv. Crash cart/defibrillator/cardioversion

v. Ventilator management

vi. Transvenous pacemaker/non-invasive pacing
  1. Environment
    1. Assists in the maintenance of safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment.

i. Demonstrates knowledge of Progressive Care security policies and procedure
