Description

The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to patients in compliance with, but not limited to, recognized Standards of Practice and State Practice Act Standards, and organization protocols, policies, procedures, and guidelines. Supervises and directs patient care in a single operating room.

As a representative of this facility, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the center's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, physicians, referral sources, guest, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork that is congruent with the center's standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Responsibilities
  • Assess patient and family needs in order to provide quality care to assigned patients.
  • Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management.
  • Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and in effective turnover time.
  • Prepares the operating room according to requirements of patient/procedure to be performed.
  • Implements plan of care safely and effectively and provides safe environment, including, but not limited to: positioning patient safely, padding bony prominences and ensuring respiratory and circulatory protection, ensuring correct prepping and draping procedures, conducting "time out" process prior to incision to ensure correct patient, correct procedures and correct surgical site.
  • Ensure asepsis during all procedures. Opens and presents sterile items to sterile fields aseptically; ensures supplies are not expired.
  • Accounting for all sponges, needles, sharps, during and after the procedures and documenting appropriately including promoting positive communication with all team members.
  • Anticipates needs of the surgical team and assists anesthesia personnel by supporting patients during administration of anesthesia.
  • Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his or her responsibilities related to general safety, center/service safely, and specific job-related hazards.
  • Follows the center exposure control plans/blood borne and airborne pathogens.
  • Must be able to work variable hours and be flexible to meet the needs of the center's daily surgery schedule.
  • Maintains current knowledge, certification, and licensure.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.


Certifications/Licensure
  • Valid State of Illinois Registered Nurse license is required.
  • BLS and ALS certifications are required.
  • PALS certification preferred.


Experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years experience in orthopedic surgery is required.
  • Ambulatory surgery center experience preferred.


Technical Skills
  • Knowledge in medical terminology preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, rate, and percent.


Soft Skills
  • Ability to communicate well and effectively present information to patients, families, co-workers, etc.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
  • Ability to communicate in verbal and written methods.
  • Ability to set priorities.
  • Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc.
  • Superior interpersonal skills


Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to communicable diseases transmitted by patients and co-workers.

Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience. Salary Description

$35 - $45 per hour, depending on experience
