Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive care to solid organ transplant recipients and pre-transplant patients

  • Administer medications and treatments as per established protocols
  • Educate patients and families regarding transplant processes and care requirements
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives within the unit

Department: Multi Organ Transplant Unit
Reports to: Nurse Manager
Wage Range: $41.15 - $58.98 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)
Hours: 37.5 Hours per Week
Shifts: 12 Hour, Days/Nights
Status: Permanent Full Time
Closing Date: July 23, 2026

Job Summary

Organ transplants are a life-saving treatment for patients with organ failure involving the heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas, islet or small bowel. The Multi Organ Transplant Unit provides care to new solid organ transplant recipients and those requiring readmission for related health issues, living donors, and pre-transplant liver failure patients.

Our internationally renowned Multi Organ Transplant Program serves Toronto, as well as Ontario, Canada and the international community. A talented team of physicians, surgeons, nurses and other allied health professionals makes UHN a leader in transplantation worldwide. With specialists in clinical care, diagnosis, research and support services, our high standard of care rivals any other.

Qualifications
  • Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification
  • Minimum one (1) year general medical/surgical experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and decision making skills
  • B.Sc. N. preferred
  • Previous transplant nursing experience preferred
  • Previous Acute Care Unit experience preferred
  • Membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario preferred
  • ADDITIONAL SKILLS: Authorization/certification, care and maintenance in the following: immunosuppressive drug therapy, TPN, PCA, Accuchek, capping off central lines, venipuncture, IV therapy, UHN Acute Care Unit Program (EKG monitoring, physical assessment, arterial line blood monitoring), Peritoneal Dialysis, accessing hemodialysis lines, removal of central lines.
