Unit Summary

The Operating Room at McMaster provides care to a high volume, critical/acute, adult, pediatric and neonate surgical population. The multidisciplinary team functions within a complex, fast-paced environment.

Position Summary

As a member of the healthcare team, the Registered Nurse is responsible for the coordination and evaluation of patient care within the Operating Room. The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to meet patient needs and guides/directs and works with the multidisciplinary team in meeting those needs.

Schedule Work Hours

Days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays (on call as required)

Qualifications

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse 2. Current BCLS certification 3. Peri-operative Certification 4. Recent relevant experience participating in a formal operating room program provided by a recognized employer or has completed a Certified Post-Registered Nurse Peri-operative Course 5. Operating Room experience (minimum 3 years and not more than 2 years since last experience) 6. Recent (within the last 2 years) experience and demonstrated skill and ability in neurosurgery, orthopedics, general adult and pediatrics, ENT, plastics, gynecology, urology and dentistry/dental 7. Demonstrated knowledge of patient care requirements and peri-operative standards in the assessment and management of adult, pediatric and neonate surgical patients 8. Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and teamwork skill
