Job Description:

  • Perform and document accurate initial and ongoing assessments to evaluate patient conditions and needs.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to address identified patient needs and goals.
  • Administer medications accurately and appropriately as ordered, monitoring patient responses and adjusting interventions as necessary.
  • Supervise and guide nursing personnel in delivering safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Provide patient and family education about the care plan, medications, procedures, and other relevant information to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Assist physicians with bedside procedures and prepare patients for tests, procedures, and surgeries.
  • Monitor patient lab work for trends and report abnormal results for necessary actions.
  • Establish a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment by adhering to policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
  • Document all pertinent patient care information accurately and timely in the patient's medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement and research activities by engaging in unit-based initiatives and evidence-based practice projects.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies by providing necessary interventions and coordinating with the healthcare team to stabilize patients.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes. [Required]
  • Basic computer skills - must be able to navigate Microsoft windows-based programs. [Required]
  • Must be fluent in English (read, verbal and written skills). [Required]
  • Equipment use to stabilize and monitor patients (IV insertion, central lines, pulse ox, NG tubes, Foley, chest tubes, hemodynamics monitoring), including electronic medical record and automated dispensing medication system (pyxis). [Required]
  • Proficient clinical skills, critical thinking skills, and strong communication skills. [Required]
  • Commitment to hourly patient rounding and EKG interpretation class. [Required]
  • Frequent independent judgment, sound professional judgment and critical-thinking skills in clinical situations, including clinical assessment, data, and patient response. [Required]
  • Ability to continuously prioritize multiple duties and function in a calm and professional manner during stressful situations. [Required]
  • General knowledge of professional nursing principles and techniques, and the pharmacological process in the appropriate administration or delivery of medications. [Required]
  • Skill to maintain effective working relationships with health professionals and others to create an environment conducive to carrying out the mission of the facility. [Required]
  • Ability to communicate (verbal and written) effectively to direct the overall professional nursing services in a manner which encourages the open exchange of ideas and information. [Required]
